Job description

We have a Senior I&C Engineer position available in Portland, OR. This person will interact directly with the customers and Wunderlich-Malec engineers and drafters in identifying requirements, developing specifications, and implementing/testing/commissioning/qualifying I&C solutions. The engineer researches systems ideas and draws up plans for instrumentation and control.
The engineer is responsible for reviewing and developing system specifications and drawing packages. The engineer conducts factory tests as needed. In addition, they provide support throughout the construction and commissioning of the instrumentation and control systems they have designed including installation and wiring, check-out support, and commissioning/qualification. As a Senior Engineer, they will be required to manage a team of engineers to meet overall schedule requirements. They will be responsible for overall quality. During proposal phases, they should be experienced with developing a scope of work and cost estimate of hours for the deliverables. They will Project Manage jobs of various sizes.
Ideally, the candidate is also interested and experienced with PLC or DCS programming, HMI/SCADA programming, network design, and/or IT/OT equipment.
Major Responsibilities
  • Responsible for I&C scope of designs and drawings including instrumentation, control, communication, PLC/RIO Panel Design, power monitoring.
  • Responsible for hazardous area design including Class I Div. 1 and Div. 2 code and design requirements
  • Instrument specification, wiring, troubleshooting, and calibration
  • Develops schematics detailing control system configuration and wiring, and design equipment panel layouts. This effort includes the ability to architect and specify control system designs and give work direction to technicians creating the drawings
  • Knowledge of the NEC and associated national, state, and local code requirements
  • Work at customer sites to perform the system checkout and start-up of electrical, instrumentation, and control systems
  • Develop the final record system documentation and provide system training to the customer
  • The Individual will be working on control system integration projects for clients across multiple industries including semiconductor, life sciences, food and beverage, data centers
  • Must have a diverse engineering skill set with the ability to work independently. Should be able to handle multiple projects simultaneously. May act as Technical Lead or Project Manager. This includes but not limited to:
    • Develops scope of work and cost estimates for the deliverables
    • Develops and executes implementation and staff plans for the project
    • Manages a team of engineers and designers, tasking staff to meet overall project deadlines
    • Ensures that all project team members clearly understand the scope of W-M responsibilities and deliver quality output
    • Develop schedules to meet the requirements of the WM team, design partners and customer
    • Evaluate progress on projects and details changes
    • Responsible for all project purchasing and subcontractor requirements
    • Responsible for project change management including tracking scope change, budget development, schedule updates and change order management

Minimum Requirements
Education A Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical/Electronics Engineering Technology or equivalent experience is required.
Experience 10 years of experience with capabilities in below areas:
  • Preparation of electrical, instrumentation, and PLC control panel specifications for purchase of materials and equipment and/or the solicitations of labor
  • Experience in design of instrumentation and controls schematics
  • Experience in the installation, checkout, and commissioning of electrical, instruments, and control systems
  • Knowledge of the NEC and associated national, state and local code requirements; includes hazardous area requirements
  • Familiar with construction, installation, maintenance, support, documentation, and testing activities to ensure compliance with specifications, codes, and customer requirements
  • Familiar with construction and installation standards and specifications for use by electrical contractors
  • Document and organize projects according to established procedures using various tools including computer software such as CAD, Excel, and Word
  • Review of fabricator and external design drawings, documentation and fabrication sequence
  • Provide cost estimates for instrumentation and controls according to established guidelines
  • Monitor status and ensure delivery of project deliverables within budgeted cost and schedule
  • Experience in industries such as Life Sciences, Building Automation, Food and Beverage, and semiconductor
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills are needed. Ability to communicate and work with both team members, subcontractors and clients
  • Experience with PLC programming is preferred
  • Experience with AutoCAD is desired
  • Professional references, preferably one from each of the following: a subordinate, a peer, and a manager
  • Experience in the design and implementation of TGMS preferred but not required
  • Ability to travel up to 25%
