The job:

As a Design Engineer, you will serve as a key member of the engineering team. You will help ensure custom panel products meet customer requirements, ship as expected, and are designed with quality, efficiency, and profitability in mind. In this role, you will be responsible for designing and engineering custom panels that meet or exceed customer specifications while supporting project budgets and profitability goals.

You will develop submittal bid packages for customer review, create panel schematics using AutoCAD Electrical, and manage bill of material data. As projects move through the submittal process, you will review customer requested changes, make necessary design updates, and prepare jobs for release to production. You will also look for opportunities to reduce custom panel product costs while maintaining quality, performance, and compliance with internal component and design standards.

In addition, you will support production and QA testing by troubleshooting assigned panels built in assembly and providing technical expertise as needed. You will also help maintain engineering tools and shared support documentation on the network to ensure the team has access to accurate, up-to-date resources.

The skills, education, and experience you need:

To succeed in this role, you must have:

  • Experience designing industrial control panels or related electrical systems.
  • Experience using AutoCAD Electrical or similar electrical design software.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and develop electrical schematics and panel layouts.
  • Working knowledge of bill of material development and component selection.
  • Familiarity with UL, NEC, and NFPA requirements related to industrial control panels.
  • Experience with PLCs, HMIs, drives, and high-level controllers is preferred.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to support multiple projects while maintaining accuracy, quality, and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with engineering, production, QA, sales, customers, and field service teams.

A bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Electro-Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, along with 3–5 years of relevant experience preferred.
