Job description

Sr. Electrical Engineer

Position Summary

The Senior Electrical Engineer will work within the engineering team to design, analyze, and validate electrical systems and components for OrangeEV’s product lines. This role involves working closely with cross-functional teams to ensure electrical systems meet the performance, safety, and reliability standards required for our product lines.

Position Responsibilities

  • Design and develop vehicle electrical architectures, including power distribution, wiring harnesses, and low/high-voltage systems.
  • Work in a team setting to develop and refine the electrical system designs for electric vehicles of on-road and off-road Class 8 trucks, including charging systems, High Voltage and low voltage DC systems, motor evaluation, controller evaluation, and other components.
  • Create and maintain 3D models and 2D drawings in Autodesk Inventor, including harnesses, circuit boards, schematics, etc.
  • Continuous improvement, including cost reduction and reliability improvement actions
  • Hands-on collaboration with Manufacturing and Procurement Team Members and key suppliers
  • Lead DFMEA and DVP&R activities for electrical systems.
  • Drive cross-functional design reviews, participate in vehicle builds, and troubleshoot electrical issues in prototype and production vehicles.
  • Provide mentorship to junior engineers and support team growth and technical excellence.

Position Qualifications

We are seeking a highly motivated business professional with qualifications that include: 

  • Education: BSME, BSEE, or a related field
  • Experience: 7+ years of experience in electrical system design for on-road commercial trucks, other automotive vehicles, or heavy commercial equipment.
  • Strong understanding of industry standards, regulations, and safety protocols
  • Demonstrable experience in vehicle wire harness design and engineering.
  • Skills and Competencies:
    1. Proficiency in CAD software (particularly Inventor).
    2. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
    3. Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.

Ideal Candidates Will Also Have

  • Experience with electric truck platforms or hybrid electric vehicle systems.
  • Familiarity with ISO 26262, or other functional safety standards.
  • Knowledge of battery management systems (BMS) and EV charging protocols (CCS, J1772).
  • Prior experience in electric machine selection and integration for Class 8 trucks or similar heavy-duty vehicles.
