Job Summary:

The electric superintendent supervises division personnel, and all activities and operations related to electrical distribution. Work involves performing technical work in operating and maintaining the City’s electrical distribution system including overseeing the construction, maintenance, operation, and repair of all systems.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

· Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains new staff.

· Oversee the daily workflow of the department.

· Oversee outage response to minimize outage times for the City’s customers; be available as outage and emergency needs arise.

· Provide constructive and timely performance evaluations; handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.

· Coordinates, conducts, and documents monthly safety meetings for the electric division.

Additional Essential Knowledge:

· National Electric Safety Code, National Electric Code, SC DOT, and OSHA regulations

· Blueprints, staking sheets, switching orders, work orders, safety manuals, and OSHA compliance reports.

· Operating knowledge of City systems, i.e., Cityworks, DataVoice, Tantalus, PayGo, ArcGIS, Edmunds, etc., to ensure electronic systems are kept up to date and operational.

· Excellent customer service skills

Duties/Responsibilities:

· Plans, organizes, and directs electrical distribution system processes to include residential, industrial, commercial uses, traffic controls, and street lighting.

· Performs skilled duties including the construction, installation, and repairs on primary and secondary lines, transformers, streetlights, substation equipment. Also works with IT/OT to ensure the City’s Fiber system is expanded, maintained, and repaired.

· Builds and maintains all primary and secondary circuits within the City including converting voltages, performing hot-line work, setting poles, re-insulating poles, changing out rotten poles, locating broken or burnt lines with fault locator, moving energized lines for framing, installing

transformers, building new taps for consumers, framing hardware, and assembling and installing cut-outs and arrestor.

· Oversee the servicing for constomers/citizens such as installing new wire services, troubleshooting, installing yard lights and streetlights, restoring power, etc.

· Prepares, reviews, organizes, and distributes work orders, meter test reports, electrical drawings, substation readings, purchase orders, and staking sheets.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

· Excellent attention to detail, and strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

· Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.

· Strong supervisory and leadership skills; ability to prioritize tasks and delegate them when appropriate.

· Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.

· Ability to operate heavy equipment, trencher, backhoe, tension machine, wire trailer, bucket truck, digger, etc.

· Ability to use supplies and power and hand tools including hydraulic drills, tamp, connecting wrench, climbing equipment, wire conductor, machine bolts, and insulator.

Minimum Education, Certifications, and Experience:

· High school diploma or equivalent.

· At least six to nine years of responsible technical experience in electrical line work.

· Supervisory experience at a minimum of the Crew Leader level.

· Lineworker training and possessing ‘A’ level certification

· SC Commercial driver’s license.

Preferred Education, Certifications, and Experience:

· Ten or more years of responsible technical experience in electrical line work as a Class A Journeyman Lineman.

· At least three to five years of responsible supervisory experience.

Work Schedule and Overtime:

· Monday – Thursday typical hours are 7 am – 5 pm.

· Overtime as needed.

· Subject to 24-hour callback.

Physical Demands/Requirements:

· Must be able to work in an outside environment in all weather and elements.

· Must be physically able to operate a variety of tools and equipment.

· Must be to exert up to fifty pounds of force occasionally.

· Must be able to stand for long periods, walk, reach, bend crouch, recline, stoop, and balance in excess of sedentary work.

· Must be able to lift up to 100 pounds at times
