Job Purpose

BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems is looking for a dynamic, results‑driven individual for the position of Thermal Analysis Engineer at our Indiana Technical Center (ITC) in Kokomo, Indiana. Under the direct supervision of the CAE Manager, the Thermal Analysis Engineer will be primarily responsible for providing thermal computer‑aided engineering (CAE) support for new product development and for improvement of component products. The role requires the ability to complete advanced, complex assignments using engineering tools, processes, and methods.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations of electric motors, components, and electric drive systems.
  • Perform heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and thermal analysis of electric motors using Ansys software.
  • Verify computer‑generated results are reasonable using hand calculations and experience.
  • Propose design modifications to meet requirements.
  • Write test plans and coordinate tests for input data collection, model calibration, and correlation studies.
  • Provide mechanical and electrical component/system analyses using analytical methods and engineering tools (e.g., MathCAD, MATLAB, Excel).
  • Develop new design tools to improve predictive engineering capabilities.
  • Write reports to summarize CAE projects.
  • Write engineering procedures and standards to document thermal analysis procedures.
  • Give presentations to internal and external customers.
  • Solve complex problems using ingenuity and creativity.
What We Are Looking For
  • BSME degree required; MSME degree preferred.
  • Educational specialization in thermal sciences preferred.
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience required.
  • Subject‑matter expert in thermal analysis preferred.
  • Ability to train, teach, and mentor other engineers preferred.
  • Engineering experience using CFD to solve thermal design problems required.
  • Proficiency in CAD using NX/Creo/ProE or Ansys DesignModeler/SpaceClaim/Discovery required.
  • Proficiency with CFD (ANSYS Fluent or CFX) required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) required.
  • Acquaintance with Ansys MotorCAD and Ansys mechanical FEA preferred.
  • Working experience in multiphysics simulation preferred.
  • Knowledge of common electric motor materials and coolants preferred.
  • Knowledge of automotive pumps and heat exchangers preferred.
  • Experience in writing test plans, thermal testing, and coordinating testing preferred.
  • Experience in manufacturing environments for mechanical components/systems preferred.
  • Working knowledge of rotating electrical machines preferred.
  • Experience working in global teams for international customers preferred.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink preferred.
  • Excellent people skills and history of teamwork required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
