Job Title: ELECTION ASSISTANT

Department: Clerk Department Division: Clerk's Office-Elections

Reports To: Election Manager

Pay Range: TASND Status: Part-Time (As Needed-1000hrs)ย 

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Position Summary: To provide clerical assistance and operational support throughout election cycles to Clerk's Elections Division.

ย ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist Elections with spreadsheets, daily balancing, processing poll workers, and abstracts.
  • Assist Elections with electronic pollbooks, and other Election equipment.ย ย 
  • Assist Elections in training for Supervisor Judges or other poll workers as needed.
  • Assist with voter registration and motor voter registration.
  • Answer telephone and relay accurate messages within the department, and to the general public.
  • Operate office equipment for data entry, scanning, indexing, filing, photocopying, and facsimile.
  • Assist in opening and closing polling places.
  • Assist in testing and securing election equipment.
  • Greet and disseminate information to the public as instructed.
  • Assist taxpayers in completing various election forms.
  • Other duties as assigned


Requirements

Requirements:

Education: Knowledge of the election process, voting equipment and ELVIS, preferred

License(s)/Certification(s): Valid driver's license required.

Experience: Experience working in an office, proficient in excel preferred.

Skills: Knowledge of modern office practices, business English, spelling and math. Knowledge of modern office equipment. Proficient, above average computer skills desirable. The ability to perform basic mathematical computations and follow both written and oral instructions. The ability to communicate effectively both in writing and orally.ย 


Physical Demands: The physical demands represent those required to successfully perform the essential functions. Reasonable accommodation may be made to perform the essential functions.


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift/pushes/pulls 50+lbs, frequently lifts up of 25-50lbs and constant lift up to 25lbs. The employee may be asked to do basement work while assisting with elections. This could mean exposure heat, dust and/or humidity. During election season, longer hours may be required.


Work Environment: The work environment characteristics represent those encountered while performing this job. Reasonable accommodation may be made to perform the essential functions.


The employee is exposed to normal noise level. The employee may also be exposed to tense and sometimes confrontational situations while assisting with customers or voters during an election.ย ย
