About Duke University Hospital

Work Schedule

  • 3 x 12 hour Day shift (7am - 7:30pm), every other weekend and some holidays.

General Description of the Job Class

  • Assist with the operation of electrocardiograph equipment to record the electromotive variations in heart muscle actions; assist in the coding, filing and distribution of EKG data.
  • Perform as a member of the cardiac arrest team, obtaining ECG record of events; assist emergency situations by initiating and/or assisting in emergency procedures prescribed by hospital policies.

Duties and Responsibilities of this Level

  • Assist with the operation of electrocardiograph equipment to record the electromotive variations in heart muscle actions.
  • Prepare patient for electrocardiogram by explaining testing procedures and fastening electrodes to specific areas of arms, legs, and chest.
  • Assist in entering patient information into electrocardiograph including history number and patient's name.
  • Remove electrodes, add billing charge to requisition slip; assist with review of electrocardiogram for technical acceptability and rate.
  • Assist in mounting electrocardiograms for interpretation by physician; assist in coding and distributing EKG data; record and file information relating to tests performed.
  • Assist with cleaning, adjusting and performing routine maintenance on equipment to ensure proper functioning.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
