SUMMARY (Basic Purpose of the Job)

  • The Patient Care Intern II position is for students currently enrolled in a nursing school or a healthcare related program who have completed at least one clinical or practicum rotation. Provides expanded hands-on experience and a deeper level of involvement in patient care. Working under the direction of a Registered Nurse, the Intern II functions as an integral member of the care team, applying foundational clinical knowledge while continuing to build skills, confidence, and professional judgement in a real work healthcare setting.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Provides direct patient care including bathing, hygiene, toileting, and feeding assist
  • Obtains and document vital signs, document intake and output, and other patient observations.
  • Performs phlebotomy, glucometer testing and EKG's
  • Recognizes and reports changes in patient condition in a timely manner
  • Responds to call lights and assist with patient needs. Assist with patient mobility, transfers, and ambulation using safe patient handing techniques.
  • Reinforces patient safety practices, including fall prevention and infection control practices
  • Maintains a clean, safe, and organized patient environment. Assists with stocking supplies and unit organization.
  • Serves as a patient companion or observer when needed
  • Communicates effectively with patients, families and team members
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalency. Currently enrolled in an accredited Nursing program or healthcare related field (with verification of enrollment and status).
  • Experience: One completed clinical or practicum rotation required. Prior patient care experience (CNA, or equivalent) preferred.
  • Other Credentials: AHA BLS. Non-Licensed must obtain before end of orientation period
  • Knowledge and Skills: Proficient in English, verbal and written communication.
  • Special Training:
  • Mental, Behavioral and Emotional Abilities: Excellent problem solving skills.
