Job description

Summary:
The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Technician will assist with management of the safety and environmental programs. The position will support EHS initiatives and inform management of critical issues. The technician's role is a hands-on position that supports production and performs immediate corrective actions to mitigate risks or hazards in the workplace. This position is expected to work on site during scheduled production hours. Primary responsibilities include promoting and implementing all EHS objectives including EHS programs, policies, and procedures with primary emphasis on occupational health and safety. EHS technician will work to assist in maintaining the desired safety culture of occupational incident/injury prevention.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Exercise stops work authority in the event of unsafe conditions or situations.
  • Assist with monitoring the facilities health & safety programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Assist with performing job safety analysis (JSA's) on all work processes.
  • Assist with safety and environmental audits and follow up on corrective actions.
  • Participate in investigations of safety and environmental related incidents.
  • Assist with proper removal and storage of chemicals and hazardous and nonhazardous waste.
  • Assist with incident investigations including root cause analysis (5 whys)
  • Collect samples and conduct inspections to ensure compliance with environmental permits.
  • Inspect daily & annual safety equipment, including fall protection, fire extinguishers, eye wash, First Aid kits and AED's.
  • Assist with safety training including: LOTO, Fall Protection, Forklift, Arch Flash etc.
  • Assist with maintaining the facilities web based chemical inventory list and Safety Data Sheets
  • Ensure proper PPE is being used daily.
  • Assist with compliance and management system audits.
  • Assist with site Safety Committee activities and Emergency Response Teams (E.R.T.) as required.
  • Other assigned requirements as needed.
Supplemental Data:
  • To perform this job successfully, the incumbent must have a passion for and demonstrate commitment for workplace injury prevention and be able to carry out each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. The incumbent will have general knowledge of OSHA regulations, standard safety procedures, and best safe work practices. General knowledge of behavioral-based safety programs is a plus. Timely completion and follow-up of assigned tasks and accurate collection and tracking of required data is essential. Provide support with ISO 14001:2004 certification.
Qualifications:
  • Two plus years in Health & Safety, OSHA 30 is preferred.
  • Previous work experience in a plastic injection molding environment or equivalent education preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Oral Communication - The ability to effectively communicate with all site personnel and regulators. This includes the ability to reinforce EHS concepts and policies in a manner that promotes learning and compliance.
  • Planning/Organizing - The ability to plan, organize, prioritize, and multi-tasks.
  • Dependability - Must have timely and accurate reporting, tracking and follow-up of assignments. Timely completion and follow-up of assigned tasks and accurate collection and tracking of required data is essential.
  • The incumbent will have knowledge and experience with understanding of OSHA regulations, standard safety procedures, and best safe work practices.
  • Knowledge, experience, and understanding of behavioral-based safety programs and Environmental regulations is a plus.
