Job Description:

The Senior Director Environmental Health Safety & Sustainability Surgery MedTech is responsible for overseeing and managing the surgery EHS&S activities across both the internal and external networks, with a focus on ensuring compliance with EHS&S regulations/standards and the safety of all employees, visitors, and contractors. This individual will lead a global team of EHS&S professionals, with an emphasis on building efficiencies through the alignment of processes, procedures, and programs to support a dynamic surgery business.

The Senior Director EHS&S Surgery MedTech is accountable for the effective alignment, deployment, and execution of EHS&S strategies, policies, and standards. This individual is also responsible for overall performance within the franchise including compliance, risk reduction and management initiatives. This role requires a leader who creates heightened organizational consciousness of EHS&S issues to deeply embed a strong EHS&S culture across the organization.

Major Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement surgery EHS&S business strategies and align the business with enterprise EHS&S goals and objectives which includes budget management, organizational models/resourcing within the franchise. Identify and build mitigation plans for key EHS&S risks at each surgery location.

  • Cultivates deep expertise and fosters continuous improvement within the surgery organization, including promoting the digital ecosystem to support execution of the EHS&S strategy, management system and assurance processes.

  • Lead and manage a global team of EHS&S professionals, providing direction, guidance, and support to ensure risk management and compliance with regulatory and Johnson & Johnson requirements.

  • Drive greater efficiency and standardization in the deployment of EHS&S resources, processes, procedures, and programs across the surgery businesses, internal & external, while advocating for innovative approaches to solve business challenges.

  • Accountable for developing a high performing team and continuous capability building.

  • Provide coaching & mentoring, develop EHS&S competencies, and build a strong talent pipeline.

  • The Senior Director EHS&S Surgery MedTech is also responsible for overall performance within the franchise including compliance, risk reduction and management initiatives. This role requires a change leader who creates heightened organizational consciousness of EHS&S issues to deeply embed a strong EHS&S culture across the organization.

  • Participate in surgery, strategic planning and decision-making processes, working collaboratively with Sr. Leaders in the surgery business & EHS&S organization to achieve organizational objectives.

  • Assures monitoring of new legislation and emerging issues that could impact the surgery business and ensure full compliance in a cost competitive manner.

  • Responsible for achieving best in class results by collaborating with business partners to integrate EHS&S into the business in a way that drives a shared accountability for EHS&S, compliance, risk reduction and drives operational value and ensure business continuity.

  • Support the development and execution of the surgery external supply risk mitigation strategy ensuring compliance with applicable J&J and regulatory expectations, protects J&J equity, minimizing the risk of external supply chain disruption due to an EHS&S related event.

  • Develop and maintain tools and processes that identify risk, track issues, and monitor/improve EHS&S performance at External Supplier sites.

  • Oversee global business plans for all business partners that require EHS&S external supply support.

  • Identify significant unmitigated and/or emerging EHS&S risks related to external supply chain and develop action plans to resolve identified issues.

  • Represent J&J's position on key external working partnerships

Other Duties

  • Monitor and drive strong EHS&S performance metrics across the surgery business unit.

  • Establish and maintain relationships with external stakeholders, including regulatory agencies, research partners, and industry associations.

  • Provide EHS&S technical assistance and support as needed across all surgery networks & locations.

  • Representing the company externally in industry forums.

Required Minimum Education: University/Bachelor's Degree

Required Years of Related Experience: 10-15 years

Required Years of People Management Experience: 8-10 years

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong communicator who is credible and self-assured; strong technical skills with the ability to explain complex requirements in an easily understood manner; ability to negotiate with and influence key business leaders.

  • Previously demonstrated supervisory/leadership experience is required.

  • Demonstrated compliance orientation with a focus on end-to-end global/regional process management is required.

  • Ability to work in a matrix, team-oriented environment.

  • Highly developed interpersonal and cross-cultural skills.

  • Strong written and oral English communication skills.

  • Strong experience working in Microsoft Office.

Additional Description for Pay Transparency:

Subject to the terms of their respective plans, employees are eligible to participate in the Company's consolidated retirement plan (pension) and savings plan (401(k)).
This position is eligible to participate in the Company's long-term incentive program.
Subject to the terms of their respective policies and date of hire, employees are eligible for the following time off benefits:
Vacation -120 hours per calendar year
Sick time - 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Colorado -48 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington -56 hours per calendar year
Holiday pay, including Floating Holidays -13 days per calendar year
Work, Personal and Family Time - up to 40 hours per calendar year
Parental Leave - 480 hours within one year of the birth/adoption/foster care of a child
Bereavement Leave - 240 hours for an immediate family member: 40 hours for an extended family member per calendar year
