W. R. Grace is looking for an experienced Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Manager to lead site compliance and safety operations at our Curtis Bay, MD facility. In this role, you’ll ensure full alignment with federal, state, and local regulations while championing company-wide EHS policies and standards.

Responsibilities
  • Strategic EHS Leadership: Develop and execute site-wide Environmental, Health, Safety, and Sustainability (EHS&S) strategies aligned with Grace enterprise goals, driving a zero-incident safety culture across a complex, multi-facility 500-employee chemical manufacturing site.
  • Union Engagement & Labor Relations: Partner directly with local union leadership and joint labor-management safety committees to champion worker safety initiatives, ensure fair EHS policy enforcement, and address safety grievances in a collaborative bargaining unit environment.
  • Process Safety Management (PSM) & RMP: Oversee site-wide OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM) and EPA Risk Management Plan (RMP) compliance, leading Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), Management of Change (MOC) reviews, pre-startup safety reviews, and mechanical integrity audits for high-hazard chemical operations.
  • Regulatory Compliance & Environmental Stewardship: Direct site compliance with local, state (Maryland Department of the Environment), and federal regulations, including Title V Air Quality permits, NPDES water discharge, RCRA hazardous waste management, and site CHP (Combined Heat and Power) environmental controls.
  • Legacy & Remediation Oversight: Serve as the primary site EHS liaison with government agencies (USACE, MDE, EPA) on complex site legacy remediation programs, including FUSRAP and environmental monitoring protocols.
  • Incident Investigation & Root Cause Analysis: Lead comprehensive incident and near-miss investigation programs utilizing formal Root Cause Analysis (RCA) methodology to ensure robust corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) are tracked and implemented.
  • EHS Management Systems & Responsible Care®: Maintain and continuously improve site EHS management systems adhering to American Chemistry Council (ACC) Responsible Care® standards RC 14001.
  • Emergency Preparedness & Response: Direct emergency response strategy and community outreach programs, serving as Incident Commander/EHS Lead for site crisis management and coordinating with Baltimore City first responders and local emergency planning committees (LEPC).
  • Industrial Hygiene & Occupational Health: Oversee comprehensive industrial hygiene monitoring, personal protective equipment (PPE) compliance, ergonomics, and occupational health programs designed to mitigate chemical exposures and workplace injuries.
  • Team Leadership & Capital Budgeting: Direct and mentor a team of site EHS professionals, managing department operating budgets and overseeing capital expenditure investments for site safety, health, and environmental risk-reduction projects.
Physical Requirements and Environment
  • Ability to follow safety protocols and standards working in a pilot plant facility with highly hazardous materials
  • Ability to work in a high hazard environment, including adverse weather conditions, elevated spaces, confined spaces, extreme temperatures, and noisy surroundings.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb stairs and ladders over 100 ft.
  • Must be willing to wear PPE (Personal Protective equipment) including but not limited to hard hat, protective eyewear, steel-toed boots, hearing protection, Level A suit, full face respirator
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in the STEM field
  • 9+ years of chemical, pharmaceutical, or industrial manufacturing experience
  • Supervisory and leadership experience.
  • Experience with OSHA 29 CFR 1910.119 and EPA 40 CFR Part 68, hazardous waste, and wastewater regulations.
  • Available for on-call and after hours work as needed.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word/Excel/Outlook

  • EHSS experience within the chemical, pharmaceutical, or industrial enviroment
  • Experience with chemical manufacturing plants complying with Clean Air Act, OSHA PSM, EPA RMP
  • Leadership within the EHS space

  • Experience in workforce case management and confidentiality 
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with internal and external stakeholders
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong time management skills and ability to prioritize tasks
