Who We're Looking For:
A motivated, self-directed professional with strong technical, analytical, communication, and time-management skills. The ideal candidate can independently lead ASHRAE Level 2 energy audits while also collaborating with project teams and mentoring junior staff.
Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or another STEM field with 3+ years of experience performing substantially all of the responsibilities identified in this job posting, OR an Associate degree in a technical, math, or science field with 5-10+ years of experience performing substantially all of the responsibilities identified in this job posting.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Experience with energy audits, building mechanical and electrical systems, controls, and energy-use analysis
• Experience preparing technical reports and presenting findings to clients
Preferred:
• 7+ years of related experience
• PE license and/or industry certifications (CEM, CEA, LEED, CLEP, BPI, HERS, NABCEP)
• Experience with commissioning, retro-commissioning, M&V, advanced field testing, and energy modeling software
Responsibilities
The Energy Engineer will lead energy and water assessments, conduct field investigations, analyze building performance, develop energy-saving recommendations, and communicate results to clients. Key responsibilities include:
• Lead ASHRAE Level 2 energy audits and water assessments
• Conduct facility surveys of commercial, multifamily, industrial, and energy-intensive buildings
• Perform retro-commissioning, measurement & verification activities, and field diagnostics
• Deploy and utilize monitoring equipment, data loggers, meters, and testing instruments
• Analyze utility data, field measurements, building systems, and control strategies
• Identify and evaluate energy conservation measures and water-saving opportunities
• Develop cost estimates, life-cycle cost analyses, and implementation recommendations
• Prepare technical reports, presentations, and scopes of work
• Present findings to clients and project stakeholders
• Review the work of junior team members and provide mentorship and training
• Support business development efforts through technical input on proposals and client opportunities
• Assist with continuous improvement of company tools, processes, resources, and training materials
This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities.
Travel Requirements
While many assignments are local or regional, candidates should expect overnight travel averaging 6-8 nights per month. All approved travel expenses are reimbursed in accordance with company policy.
Physical Requirements
• Ability to lift up to 20 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally
• Ability to walk, stand, sit, climb ladders, balance, kneel, crouch, and crawl as needed
• Ability to use field testing equipment and tools
• Ability to work in commercial, industrial, and outdoor environments, including rooftops and mechanical spaces
Work Environment
• Office and field-based work with moderate noise levels
• Occasional exposure to loud environments, weather conditions, moving mechanical equipment, heights, and electrical systems
• Appropriate PPE is required when conducting field work
