Educational Assistant Job Description

The Educational Assistant works under the direction of the School Leader, Academic Team and in conjunction with various network administrators.

ROLE OF AN EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANT:

The Educational Assistant will perform a variety of operational and academic tasks within the network. Depending on experience, educational assistants may serve as front office support, substitute teachers, in class teacher support, and/or teach support and intervention classes. EA’s MUST BE FLEXIBLE and understand that all assignments are of extreme importance and impact student achievement.

AN MBA EA MUST HAVE strong communication skills, particularly with children; educational assistants must be able to relay information simply and concisely, while also understanding and engaging with the concerns of their students. Educational assistants must be willing to administer consequences for unruly behavior and should have patience with students facing academic or personal struggles. Additionally, an educational assistant must be able to follow the lesson plans of the main instructor. They must also be able to maintain order in the classroom.

Educational Assistants must able to communicate positively and professionally with colleagues, parents, students, and visitors. Moreover, the assistant must be a team player and solutions oriented. Ultimately, the assistant's responsibilities will be contingent on the needs of each school and classroom.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The roles and responsibilities of an Educational Assistant include, but are not limited to:

Support Teacher/ Interventionist

  • Reinforce lessons presented by teachers by reviewing material with students one-on-one or in small groups
  • Deliver tailored teaching activities to students on either a one-to-one, small group or whole group basis
  • Make sure that the students that you support are able to engage in learning and stay on task during the lesson or activity
  • Give extra help to children with special needs or those for whom English is not their first language
  • Tutor and support learning for students.
  • Guide and monitor student progress (data tracking)
  • Support the social and emotional development of pupils, reporting any issues as necessary
  • Enforce school and class rules to help manage student behavior
  • Motivating and encouraging students
  • Maintain a safe and sanitary learning environment.
  • Attend professional development meetings

Substitute Teacher/ Office Support

  • Make sure that the students that you support are able to engage in learning and stay on task during the lesson or activity
  • Reinforce lessons presented by teachers by reviewing material with students and actively monitoring during class time
  • Tutor and support learning for students.
  • Give extra help to children with special needs or those for whom English is not their first language
  • Assist teachers with preparing classroom resources as needed
  • Help teachers with recordkeeping, such as tracking attendance and calculating grades
  • Support the social and emotional development of pupils, reporting any issues as necessary
  • Enforce school and class rules to help manage student behavior
  • Motivating and encouraging students
  • Help with school events, trips, activities, and projects
  • Carry out administrative duties such as front office support, managing student records, answering phones, drafting letters/memos/fliers
  • Supervise students in a variety of settings, curtailing behavior problems.
  • Maintain a safe and sanitary learning environment.
  • Help supervise students in class, between classes, during lunch and recess, and on field trips

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
The Educational Assistant must meet the following criteria:

  • Possess a love for children (required)
  • Has experience working in a school setting (required)
  • Hold a Bachelor’s Degree (preferable in a content area or education)
  • Enrolled in an Education Preparation Program (preferred)
  • Bilingual / bi-literate in Spanish (desired)
  • Must be flexible and willing to travel
