Job description

Position Summary

We are seeking a dependable and organized Protestant Religious Education Coordinator to support the Protestant Chapel community at Maxwell Air Force Base. The selected candidate will coordinate and oversee a wide range of religious education programs for children, youth, adults, and families while working closely with chapel leadership, volunteers, and ministry staff. This position combines program coordination, event planning, volunteer management, and teaching responsibilities in a collaborative faith-based environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, organize, and coordinate Protestant religious education programs throughout the year.
  • Develop schedules, calendars, and lesson plans for weekly and seasonal activities.
  • Coordinate Sunday School, Bible studies, children's programs, youth activities, Vacation Bible School, retreats, and special events.
  • Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise volunteers.
  • Teach approved curriculum when volunteer instructors are unavailable.
  • Coordinate classrooms, facilities, supplies, and educational resources.
  • Prepare promotional materials and communicate upcoming events.
  • Maintain attendance records, volunteer documentation, and program reports.
  • Assist with annual planning, budgeting, and curriculum recommendations.
  • Work collaboratively with chapel leadership, ministry staff, and volunteers to ensure successful program delivery.
  • Ensure activities are conducted in a safe, organized, and welcoming environment.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Religious Education, Christian Ministry, Theology, Education, or a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Experience coordinating church or religious education programs.
  • Experience working with children, youth, and adult ministries.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and common office software.
  • Ability to work effectively with volunteers and diverse faith communities.
  • Must be able to successfully complete required background screening and installation access requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience supporting a military chapel or faith-based organization.
  • Experience planning large religious events and volunteer programs.
  • Familiarity with presentation, graphic design, or church management software.
Schedule
  • Approximately 20 hours per week (80 hours per month)
  • Sunday coverage required
  • Additional hours may be required during major religious events, holiday programs, and Vacation Bible School.
