Primary Purpose:
Assists with the design, and execution of education/outreach programs designed to educate school groups and the public about marine and coastal science, animals, and conservation. Participates in the well care of marine turtles and maintenance of life support systems and collaborates in research initiatives. The Education Specialist works under the direction of the MEEC Education Program Specialist for all education programming related tasks and under the direction of the Director of the MEEC for the overall mission of the MEEC.

Essential Job Functions:
1. Promotes education programs and communicates with local schools and camps to schedule field trips to the MEEC.
2. Designs and implements programs of education and outreach of the Marine Environmental Education Center at the Carpenter House for sea turtles and other marine species and topics.
3. Develops and implements programming for school and other organizational groups as well as daily education programs for the public.
4. Invites guests to speak/present on marine topics in a lecture series and works with general public to educate kids and adults about sea turtles and other marine species and topics.
5. Assists in daily operations of MEEC facility, including resident animal care.
6. Performs outreach/education activities and integrate scientific knowledge and operational expertise to ensure excellence in development and translation of research.
7. Manages and maintains good working relationships with other related groups.
8. Assists with animal care department needs.
9. Assists with development of new exhibits and signage and contributes ideas for growth within a small facility.
10. Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Job Requirements:
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Skills

3. Good organizational skills.
4. Knowledge of MS Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook; database and data entry skills.
5. Ability to utilize or learn to utilize software relevant to position.
6. Ability to learn work routines quickly.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORKING CONDITIONS:
1. May be exposed to short, intermittent, and/or prolonged periods of sitting and/or standing in performance of job duties.
2. Ability to walk up and down two flights of stairs, multiple times, daily.
3. Ability to work a 9:00a-5:00p shift from Tuesday through Saturday.
4. May be required to work nights or weekends.
Required Certifications/Licensures:
Required Education: Bachelor's Degree
Major (if required:
Required Experience: 1. Six months (6) months to one (1) year science education experience.
2. Experience working with children and adults.
3. Experience with animal care and husbandry.
