Job Description

Title: Editorial Assistant

Reports to: Managing Editor

Department: Baker Academic and Brazos Press Editorial

Location: Baker Publishing Group office, Ada, MI

FLSA: Hourly, Non-Exempt

Position Objective

To provide support to the Baker Academic and Brazos Press editorial department.

Primary Responsibilities

· Manage reprint corrections and cloth-to-paper conversions in cooperation with the acquisitions, design, and production departments, making sure to keep projects on schedule.

· Edit and route materials from the visual communications and marketing departments, including covers, ads, catalogs, etc.

· Assist editors with proofreading various materials, including indexes, manuscripts, etc.

· Perform checks related to the end of the book-production process, including preproduction checks and reviews of printer proofs and ebook files.

· Handle routine administrative tasks, including scheduling editorial meetings, preparing files for CIP data, and printing and mailing items on behalf of colleagues.

Qualifications

· Master's degree in Bible, theology, or related fields

· Meticulous attention to detail

· Growing knowledge of the current edition of The Chicago Manual of Style

· Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Word

· Interpersonal communication skills

· Written and verbal communication skills

· Grammar/editing knowledge and skills

· Ability to prioritize, handle multiple tasks, follow schedules, and meet deadlines

· Self-motivated

· Takes responsibility for own professional development

Primary Relationships

Internal: Acquisitions editors, project editors, design staff, production staff, visual communications staff, sales and marketing staff

External: Authors, freelancers
