Job description

GENERAL SUMMARY:

We are seeking a highly qualified Advanced Practice Provider (APP) (APRN preferred; PA-C considered) to join our outpatient practice. The APP will serve as the initial diagnostic clinician or โ€œgatekeeperโ€ for patients referred for lymphatic disease. This role requires a high level of clinical acumen to differentiate between multiple causes of edema, including lymphedema, lipedema, venous insufficiency, heart failure, and other causes of edema. The gatekeeper will perform all the initial patient evaluation to determine the cause of the edema. If a lymphatic etiology is identified the gatekeeper will refer the patient to the lymphatic therapist. They will also collaborate with the surgical team and interdisciplinary specialists to ensure appropriate patient selection and optimization for surgical lymphatic intervention if appropriate. The ideal candidate will meet the following criteria:

Qualifications:

  • Training: Formal training in advanced practice nursing or physician assistant studies in family practice, with the ability to treat both adult and pediatric patients (ages 0โ€“99) and supplemental education/training in vascular medicine and/or lymphatic disorders is strongly recommended.
  • Experience:ย Minimum of 5 years of clinical experience in primary care, internal medicine, vascular medicine or cardiology; must be capable of working independently.
  • Clinical Skills:ย Proficientย in physical assessment, differential diagnosis and interpretation of diagnostic studies related to cardiac, renal, vascular, dermatologic, and gastrointestinal conditions, particularly those related to body edema. Familiarity with the use of doppler ultrasound, echocardiography, lymphoscintigraphy and other techniques used to evaluate edema.
  • Ability to evaluate and diagnose systemic illnesses associated with edema.

Special Interests:ย Interest in lymphatic care is essential; additional training will be provided. Will also manage patients with Lipedema. This role does not involve managing acute conditions such upper respiratory infections or exacerbations of congestive heart failure (CHF). Language Skills: Bilingual in Spanish is preferred but not required.

Collaboration:ย 

  • Will work closely with medical director and discuss all patients daily.
  • Must be comfortable working independently while maintaining collaborative communication.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, staff, and patients.
  • Strong communication skills; Strong medical decision-making skills
  • Proficient in delivering clear, compassionate patient education; Skilled in clinical triage and surgical clearance processes

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Masterโ€™s degree in nursing or physician assistant studies
  • Surgical experience (preferred) โ€ข Minimum 5 years of experience practicing as an APRN or PA-C
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred, but not required

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, REGISTRATION:

  • Current, valid Florida PA or APRN license
  • Current, valid DEA license
  • Certification by NCCPA, ANCC/AANP
