Job description

Sustaining Engineer is responsible for designing engineering changes on already existing products, improvements related to manufacturability, root cause analysis, corrective actions as well as providing daily reports for the ECR process. This position spans engineering design function, manufacturing function and quality function and is a high visibility role.
Responsibilities:
All job requirements listed are requirements for the core responsibilities of this position. This position may require other activities and duties to be performed as assigned by their manager.
  • Report daily on the status of engineering change requests (ECRs) and maintain records of resolution. Resolve individually or coordinate resolution of ECRs in a team setting.
  • Works with production in addressing quality and manufacturing questions / problems, providing recommendations, establishing and monitoring corrective actions.
  • Provides design support via product re-design, drawing updates, and analysis
  • Report daily on the status of customer complaints and coordinating disposition with other internal teams
  • Develop and maintain procedures for product testing to ensure reliability, durability, manufacturability and safety of finished products.
  • Collect and monitor quality data to identify out of control trends or deviations from normal quality/process control limits. Ensure all quality related documents and/or records per internal/external requirements are properly maintained.

Desired qualifications and experience:
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or similar. 5 years or more experience desired
  • Experience with SolidWorks or a similar 3D software package
  • Knowledge or experience with manufacturing processes such as sheet metal fabrication, machining, welding, laser cutting and routing
  • Experience or exposure to manufacturing process routers
  • Experience in designing or modifying products with detailed BOMs, clean 3D models, and utilizing a PDM system
  • Previous experience with FEA or desire to learn is valued
  • Some exposure to Design for Manufacturability and Assembly (DFMA)
  • Good mechanical aptitude
  • Must be a self-starter, multi-tasker, team player, work well with others, and have a positive attitude
  • Good written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Ability and desire to learn operations of the ERP system
  • Basic understanding or exposure to statistical process control
