Grant Writer – Governmental Entity

Employment Type: Full-Time
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Salary: $55,000 – $65,000 annually, DOE (Depending on Experience)

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Grant Writer to support a governmental entity focused on housing, community development, and sustainable growth initiatives. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional writing, research, and analytical skills, with demonstrated experience preparing competitive grant applications in response to federal, state, and local funding opportunities.

This position requires a self-motivated professional who is intellectually curious, highly organized, and capable of translating complex program objectives into compelling, fundable proposals. The Grant Writer will work in-office with department leadership to identify funding opportunities, develop grant strategies, and produce high-quality submissions that align with organizational priorities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Research, identify, and evaluate federal, state, and local grant opportunities.
  • Review and interpret Notices of Funding Opportunity (NOFOs) and funding guidelines.
  • Develop, write, edit, and submit competitive grant proposals and supporting documentation.
  • Collaborate with department heads and subject matter experts to gather information necessary for proposal development.
  • Prepare clear, persuasive narratives that effectively communicate program goals, community impact, and organizational capacity.
  • Coordinate proposal timelines to ensure all deadlines are met.
  • Conduct research to support data-driven grant narratives and funding justifications.
  • Maintain grant files, proposal templates, and supporting documentation.
  • Assist with post-award reporting requirements when needed.
  • Monitor funding trends related to housing, community development, infrastructure, and economic growth.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Public Administration, Political Science, Business, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 2–3 years of professional grant writing experience, preferably within a governmental or public-sector environment.
  • Demonstrated success responding to NOFOs and securing grant funding.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, proofreading, and research skills.
  • Strong analytical and organizational abilities with excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with housing, community development, planning, infrastructure, or economic development grants.
  • Familiarity with HUD, FEMA, CDBG, HOME, EDA, or other governmental funding programs.
  • Experience collaborating with executive leadership and department directors.
  • Knowledge of grant compliance and reporting requirements.

  • Strong research and investigative skills.
