Job description

Position: Assistant, Player Development – Mandarin Interpreter

Department: Baseball Department

Duration: June 2026 – October 2026 

Status: Hourly (non-exempt)

Position Summary: 

The San Francisco Giants are seeking an Assistant, Player Development – Mandarin Interpreter to join the Baseball Operations Department.  This position provides comprehensive support across multiple areas of Player Development. Within Player Education, responsibilities include Mandarin-English interpreting and translating, supporting cultural education, aiding in classroom material preparation, and facilitating educational programming. This role also assists the San Francisco Giants Player Development Department with player paperwork, documentation, appointments, transportation logistics, and other miscellaneous projects that support the daily administrative needs of the department.

Additionally, this position may be asked to actively support the on-field coaching staff, including assisting with drills, playing catch, feeding machines, hitting fungos, and helping create a productive training environment when interpretation is not actively needed.

Due to the nature of this position, relocation may be necessary should player(s) requiring interpreting services move within the minor leagues. This role is tied to organizational interpreting needs and may be reviewed if those needs change during the employment period.

Position Responsibilities: 

Translation & Interpretation

  • Provide accurate interpretation and translation services of Mandarin for players and staff in baseball and non-baseball social and informational settings, including but not limited to on-field, off-field, cages, training room, classroom, and clubhouse.
  • Schedule and accompany players to outside appointments as needed.
  • Assist with player paperwork, documents, company card reconciliation and other administrative tasks, as needed.

Baseball Activity Support

  • Provide support for on-field coaching staff when needed by being available to assist in basic on-field activities such as playing catch, feeding machines, hitting fungos, and supporting drill work.

Education

  • Assist teachers in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of players, as needed.
  • Contribute to the development of the education curriculum by providing creative, appropriate and educationally enriching activity recommendations.
  • Educate players and staff on cultural differences to support communication, understanding, and player integration.

Administrative & Logistics

  • Assist with travel logistics, hotel reservations, and appointments for various events.
  • Assist in compiling and updating schedules, rosters, and databases for Player Development.
  • Regular communication with staff regarding daily needs/scheduling.
  • Work effectively with individuals of diverse educational, socio-economic, and cultural backgrounds.
  • Provide support to the clubhouse staff, including assistance with mailing and distribution, ordering office supplies, coordinating office equipment repairs, and maintaining storage spaces at the facilities.
  • Assist with transportation as needed (airport pick-up/drop-offs and appointments related to Social Security, banking, visas or travel documents)
  • Aid in the management of Trello, Contact List, and schedules.
  • Assist with miscellaneous and ad hoc tasks as needed.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Native or professional fluency in Mandarin and English
  • Ability to accurately interpret and translate baseball-related information between Mandarin and English on and off the field
  • Former baseball playing, coaching, or training experience preferred
  • Fluency in Spanish is a plus
  • Proficiency with Google Drive, Trello, and Microsoft Excel is preferred. Proficiency with SQL is a plus.
  • Strong work ethic, initiative, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information in a professional manner
  • Willingness to work non-traditional hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed
  • Ability to communicate effectively and build positive working relationships with players, coaches, staff, and affiliate front office personnel
  • Positive attitude and commitment to contributing to a strong team culture
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to provide transportation support as needed
