GQ is looking for a Senior Commerce Editor to help lead and grow GQ Recommends across grooming, wellness, fitness and the broader lifestyle universe. This person will write, assign, edit, and publish a daily lineup of commerce content, from deeply reported buying guides to punchy obsessions to timely product news.
The role will work across every corner of the GQ Recommends ecosystem, with an emphasis on visual storytelling through video, social, newsletter, and other emerging formats. The ideal candidate is as comfortable shaping a story behind the scenes as they are stepping in front of a camera. and audience engagement across newsletters, video, and social.
Reporting to GQ's Commerce Director, the Senior Commerce Editor will work with editorial, cross-functional departments, external partners, and a team of dedicated writers and editors, to develop high-impact content that drives performance to meet ambitious revenue growth. The role requires exceptional editorial judgement, strong management skills, deep familiarity with commerce publishing and SEO, and a sharp understanding of how shopping content performs across platforms.
Key Responsibilities:
Revenue and Team Management
  • Manage toward brand-level revenue targets and margin, using performance against goals to direct content strategy and resource prioritization
  • Oversee day-to-day management of staff, freelance writers, and producers, including hiring, coaching, and performance management
  • Manage freelance budgets and allocation across production, photography, freelance writers, and editors

Content Strategy & Quality
  • Pitch, write, edit, and update seasonal shopping guides, roundups, and single-item odes across grooming, wellness, fitness and lifestyle in addition to potential growth categories
  • Partner with SEO to implement best practices and optimize content for search, newsletter, and social
  • In collaboration with priority merchant partners, help develop, plan, and execute content lineups to support those partnerships and help us meet our revenue goals
  • Work cross-functionally with editorial, audience development, social, and video teams to maintain GQ Recommends' authority, humor, and editorial point of view across every platform
  • Build a holistic content strategy that maximizes CTR, AOV, and ARPU
  • Continually experiment with new formats, visual storytelling approaches, and creative ways to make shopping content feel fresh, useful, and distinctly GQ

Audience Growth & Distribution
  • Build growth strategies that diversify traffic sources across search, email, social, creator, and direct
  • Assist with the newsletter strategy ideation and execution for the brand, including vertical growth, content quality, and acquisition
  • Assign resources against each channel based on opportunity size
  • Foster innovation in multi-modal content distribution

Partnerships & Innovation
  • Facilitate and execute partnership content at the brand level, working closely with directors, brand leads, and the partnerships team to ensure deliverables strengthen relationships and drive revenue
  • Take a leadership role in the conception and execution of new shoppable multi-modal content formats across various channels, collaborating with cross-functional partners to create engaging and monetizable content experiences for audiences
  • Champion experimentation with new formats, distribution models, and revenue approaches across the team

Requirements:
  • 6-7 years of editing experience in a digital media environment, with a background in service journalism and product recommendations preferred
  • Familiarity with affiliate platforms and programs (i.e., Skimlinks and Amazon)
  • Strong understanding of web analytics, SEO, and commerce best practices
  • Proven experience managing several editorial staffers at different levels, from top-editing to one-on-one performance feedback.
  • An understanding of and enthusiasm for style as it relates to all categories of shopping coverage.
  • Ability to produce conversational, approachable commerce stories that are factually accurate, and that motivate and inspire readers.
  • Experience collaborating cross-functionally with editorial, advertising, design, video, and engineering teams
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and project management skills, with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment

The expected base salary range for this position is from $90,000 - $100,000. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including but not limited to relevant skills, training, experience, and education.
