This is a travel-based leadership opportunity for an experienced environmental construction professional who can run heavy earthwork projects, lead crews and subcontractors, maintain a strong safety culture, and take ownership of project execution from mobilization through completion.

The ideal candidate combines hands-on field credibility with strong leadership, organization, and communication skills. This is an excellent opportunity for a Superintendent who enjoys challenging remediation work and wants a long-term path into Project Management and broader client responsibility.

What You'll Do as the Site Superintendent:

  • Lead daily field operations across environmental remediation, heavy earthwork, excavation, demolition, and site restoration projects
  • Supervise crews of approximately 10 employees, equipment operators, and subcontractors on most projects
  • Coordinate manpower, equipment, materials, subcontractors, and daily production activities
  • Lead soil excavation, grading, backfill, compaction, contaminated material handling, and other heavy dirt-work operations
  • Support projects involving coal ash remediation, manufactured gas plant sites, groundwater remediation, UST/AST removal, ISS/ISCO treatment, demolition, and industrial cleanup
  • Safely coordinate the use of excavators, dozers, compactors, hydrovac equipment, and other heavy construction machinery
  • Review plans, remedial action plans, work plans, specifications, and site conditions to keep projects aligned with scope and schedule
  • Identify field issues early and work with Project Managers to resolve production, safety, quality, or schedule concerns
  • Maintain environmental compliance related to stormwater controls, dust suppression, waste segregation, hazardous materials, and site-specific requirements
  • Lead daily safety expectations, support morning safety meetings, and enforce site-specific health and safety plans
  • Maintain accurate daily reports covering production, labor hours, equipment utilization, materials, subcontractors, and project observations
  • Track daily time sheets and provide field information that supports labor cost and schedule management
  • Manage onsite materials, tools, supplies, and equipment to keep production moving efficiently
  • Serve as the primary field contact for clients, engineering consultants, regulators, and project stakeholders
  • Provide timely updates to Project Management regarding field production, subcontractor performance, safety, quality, and project status
  • Support emergency response mobilizations when required
  • Travel throughout the Midwest and Central U.S., with individual assignments ranging from approximately 2 weeks to 8 months

Must-Haves as the Site Superintendent:

  • 5+ years of environmental remediation, heavy civil, earthwork, excavation, or closely related construction experience
  • Demonstrated field leadership experience supervising crews, operators, and subcontractors
  • Strong heavy earthwork and excavation background
  • Experience safely managing projects involving heavy equipment such as excavators, dozers, compactors, cranes, or hydrovac equipment
  • Underground utility or subsurface construction experience
  • Strong understanding of field safety, production, scheduling, and quality control
  • Ability to read construction plans, scopes, specifications, work plans, and site-specific requirements
  • Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to hold crews accountable
  • Ability to work independently and make sound field decisions
  • Proficiency with basic field reporting tools including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, or comparable systems
  • Willingness to travel extensively and remain onsite for extended project assignments
  • Ability to mobilize to Central and Midwestern project locations within approximately one travel day
  • Willingness to complete required pre-employment screening and work in physically demanding field environments

Nice-to-Haves as the Site Superintendent:

  • Direct environmental remediation experience
  • Experience with contaminated soil excavation and hazardous waste handling
  • Coal ash pond remediation experience
  • Manufactured Gas Plant remediation experience

  • OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER certification
  • OSHA, excavation, confined space, first aid/CPR, or other formal safety training
  • Experience with site-specific Health and Safety Plans
  • Emergency response experience
  • Experience training and mentoring field personnel
  • Interest in growing into Project Management and a seller/doer role

Our Client Offers:

  • Base salary of $110,000-$130,000, with flexibility for the right candidate
  • Company-paid travel expenses
  • Company credit card for lodging and meals while traveling
  • Company truck and gas card
