JOB SUMMARY:

The Earthwork Foreman is responsible for supervising and coordinating all aspects of earthwork operations, including mass excavation, detailed excavation, grading, site preparation, Topcon and basic GPS setup, and equipment troubleshooting. The Earthwork Foreman oversees construction crews by directing daily activities, reviewing schedules, ensuring work is performed in accordance with project plans and specifications, and planning equipment and resource needs. This position is responsible for enforcing company policies, procedures, safety standards, and operational expectations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Execute work plans and schedules in accordance with contract requirements, project plans, and specifications.
  • Coordinate daily work activities according to project priorities and schedules, adjusting as necessary due to weather conditions, material availability, deliveries, or staffing needs.
  • Ensure adequate resources, equipment, and staffing are available to meet project schedules, regulatory requirements, best practices, and safety standards.
  • Provide regular project status updates to supervisors, site engineers, and other stakeholders.
  • Coordinate material and equipment deliveries with vendors and suppliers.
  • Create and manage work schedules for crew members and subcontractors.
  • Maintain daily jobsite logs and provide reports to management as required.
  • Maintain accurate project records, including quantities completed, productivity rates, timesheets, and daily reports.
  • Ensure work assignments are completed on schedule and within budgeted cost expectations.
  • Monitor crew performance and work progress, making adjustments to plans, schedules, and resources as necessary while communicating changes to project management.
  • Assist with skilled trade work and general construction duties as needed to support project completion.
  • Ensure adherence to project procedures, quality standards, and standard operating practices among crew members.
  • Assist with overseeing project crews by providing leadership and direction, training and developing crew members, promoting positive morale and teamwork, and ensuring safe work practices are consistently followed.
  • Conduct oneself in a professional manner that reflects the best interests of the Company while on duty or representing the Company.
  • Report any incident, situation, or activity that could impact the Company's ability to operate safely, ethically, or profitably to the Field Civil Superintendent or Site Project Manager.
  • Ensure projects are executed safely and in accordance with contract requirements by actively supporting the Company's Health and Safety Program, monitoring site compliance and safety audit results, modifying or suspending work activities as directed by Project Management, and verifying required safety equipment is available and properly utilized.
  • Maintain all certifications required by law, regulation, or Company policy.
  • Work collaboratively with co-workers in a respectful, professional, and supportive manner.
  • Work in a constant state of alertness and perform duties safely at all times.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY FUNCTIONS:

This position supervises and directs excavation and earthwork craft personnel, laborers, equipment operators, and subcontractors.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

  • Advanced knowledge of construction methods, practices, procedures, and field operations.
  • Advanced knowledge of construction materials, terminology, and industry best practices.
  • Advanced ability to read, interpret, and apply project plans, specifications, and construction documents.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, regulations, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, blueprints, and specifications.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage resources, meet deadlines, and coordinate multiple activities simultaneously.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate, direct, and develop construction crews.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment, follow direction, maintain attention to detail, comply with work rules, and meet project schedules.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills to effectively interact with inspectors, clients, project stakeholders, and administrative personnel.
  • Sound decision-making skills to assign personnel and subcontractors appropriately while maintaining project schedules and budgets.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Five (5) years of experience in the civil construction industry.
  • Three (3) years of experience supervising construction crews in a Foreman, Lead, or similar leadership role.
  • Working knowledge of project scheduling, material control, unit man-hour performance, estimating fundamentals, and job cost management systems preferred.
  • Experience managing excavation and earthwork operations preferred.
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety certification preferred.
  • Valid state driver's license and must be qualified to operate a vehicle under the conditions of the Company's Driving Policy.
  • Ability to pass a drug, driving, and background screening.

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee must encounter to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Brice Highway operates in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment that requires a high level of efficiency, adaptability, and effective performance. Work is performed both in office settings and at indoor and outdoor construction sites. Employees must be able to adapt to changing schedules, project conditions, and design modifications. Occasional overtime, travel, and immediate field support may be required to meet project demands and operational needs.
