Job description

KHOU, the TEGNA-owned CBS affiliate in Houston, is seeking a Temporary Broadcast Director. This role will support our production team on a short-term basis, directing daily newscasts and other local programming using both production automation and manual switching.

The Broadcast Director will partner closely with news, production, and technical teams to deliver fast-paced, compelling, and high-quality newscasts. We're looking for someone who brings strong technical expertise, sharp attention to detail, and the ability to think ahead and problem-solve in real time.

This is a temporary position, with the potential to support coverage needs across various shifts, including evenings, early mornings, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Direct daily live newscasts and recorded shows using both automation and manual switching
  • Oversee the overall look and execution of newscasts and on-air programming
  • Identify and resolve potential issues before they go to air
  • Troubleshoot technical systems as needed during live and recorded productions
  • Use non-linear editing and content management systems for programming, commercial, and digital content

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, TV Production, or related field preferred, or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years of experience with production automation, video switchers, newsroom systems, video servers, and graphics systems preferred
  • Ability to adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment, especially during breaking news
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across multiple teams
  • Experience with ENPS, Chyron, and BitCentral is a plus
  • Flexible availability, including weekends, early mornings, nights, and holidays #LI-MS1
