Description

Corporate Strategy at Citizens sits at the core of the enterprise - partnering directly with the CEO and Executive Committee (ExCo) to shape the strategic direction of the bank. The team drives the highest-priority decisions across Citizens, identifying growth opportunities, driving transformation and go-to-market initiatives, and strategically embedding innovation to position CFG for long-term competitive advantage.

As a Corporate Strategy Lead (Vice President), you will own and drive high-profile, cross-enterprise strategy projects and strategic deep dives spanning Consumer, Commercial, and Private Banking. You will work on the issues that matter most - evaluating new growth vectors, pressure-testing strategic priorities, and translating insight into action at the highest levels of the organization.

This is a high-visibility role with direct exposure to the Executive Committee, Board of Directors, and senior leaders across every business line. You will not just observe strategy - you will shape it, influence the bank's direction, and drive outcomes that define Citizens' future.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead high-impact strategic projects end-to-end - from defining the problem statement and structuring the analytical approach, managing workstreams, engaging stakeholders and subject matter experts, to synthesizing findings into actionable executive-level recommendations.
  • Drive mobilization and execution of strategic initiatives - developing implementation roadmaps, defining ownership and governance, establishing review cadences, and preparing leadership for key decision points.
  • Conduct competitive intelligence and peer benchmarking - analyzing peer strategy, financial performance, and market positioning to sharpen Citizens' strategic narrative and identify areas of differentiation or opportunity.
  • Identify and advance opportunities to embed GenAI/AgenticAI capabilities as an accelerator of strategy - staying abreast of new technologies and use cases relevant to the enterprise strategy agenda.
  • Serve as a strategic thought partner to the Executive Committee and cross-functional leaders across Consumer, Commercial, Private Bank, Risk, and Corporate Finance - maintaining a forward-looking view on industry trends and the evolving financial services landscape to drive strategic alignment, surface growth opportunities, and inform enterprise-level decision-making.
  • Architect the annual Strategic Plan and own the development of executive-quality materials across the enterprise's most critical forums - including the Board of Directors' two-day strategic planning offsite, monthly ExCo strategic updates, annual ELG presentations, and other senior leadership sessions.
  • Mentor and develop junior team members - providing structured guidance on problem-solving, communication, and strategic thinking to build the next generation of enterprise strategists.

Experience, Skills and Competencies:

  • High-performer with sharp analytical and strategic instincts - recent experience at a top-tier management consulting firm (MBB or equivalent) or in a corporate strategy function required; financial services or banking experience is a strong plus.
  • Ability to navigate complex, high-impact projects in fast-paced environment - comfortable with ambiguity, able to structure problems independently, and skilled at driving toward clear recommendations under time pressure.
  • Intellectual curiosity and passion for financial services - genuinely energized by understanding how banks create value, how markets evolve, and where disruption creates opportunity.
  • Strong financial and business acumen - ability to interpret financial statements, key banking metrics (e.g., NII, fee income, efficiency ratio, RORC), and translate financial performance into strategic implications.
  • Exceptional communicator with executive presence - ability to distill complex analyses into crisp, board-ready narratives and influence senior stakeholders across a highly matrixed organization.
  • Relationship-driven collaborator - experience building trusted partnerships across business lines and functions to drive alignment and enterprise-level outcomes.
  • Effective coach-player leader - ability to simultaneously lead the work and develop a small team (2-3 analysts), providing structured mentorship on problem-solving, storytelling, and analytical rigor.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft suite (deep Excel and PowerPoint skills required) and demonstrated fluency with GenAI tools to accelerate analysis, research, and content development.

Education and Certifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required; MBA or equivalent advanced degree preferred
  • 7-10 years of relevant experience post-undergrad, or 3-5 years post-MBA - ideally spanning top-tier management consulting, corporate strategy, or financial services

To thrive as a colleague at Citizens, candidates must demonstrate a strong customer-centric mindset, exhibit persistence and resilience in the face of challenges, and embrace continuous learning to adapt and grow in a dynamic environment.
