E Techs, or Electronics Technicians, are professionals who install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electronic equipment and systems. They work in various industries, including manufacturing, telecommunications, and defense, ensuring that electronic devices and systems function correctly and efficiently. E Techs may also assist engineers in designing and testing new electronic products. Their responsibilities often require knowledge of circuit boards, processors, and other electronic components, as well as proficiency with diagnostic tools.

Industry UsageIT services, tech supportNetworking, telecommunications

Both E Tech and Network Technician roles involve technical skills and certifications like CompTIA A+ and Network+. However, E Techs typically focus on hardware, software support, and general IT troubleshooting, while Network Technicians specialize in network infrastructure, configuration, and maintenance. The roles often overlap in IT environments, but their core responsibilities and certifications differ slightly, making each role suited to different technical focuses within the industry.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an E Tech, and why are they important?

To thrive as an E Tech (Electronics Technician), you need a solid understanding of electronics theory, circuit analysis, and troubleshooting skills, typically supported by an associate degree or technical certification. Experience with diagnostic tools like multimeters, oscilloscopes, and familiarity with industry-standard software or PLC systems is often required. Strong attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication are essential soft skills in this role. These capabilities ensure precise repairs, minimize downtime, and support efficient teamwork in maintaining complex electronic systems.

What are some common challenges E Techs face when troubleshooting electrical systems in an industrial setting?

E Techs often encounter issues such as diagnosing intermittent faults, working under time pressure during equipment breakdowns, and ensuring all repairs comply with strict safety regulations. Additionally, they must stay updated with rapidly evolving technologies and maintain effective communication with engineers, production staff, and other technicians. Proactive problem-solving, attention to detail, and adaptability are crucial for overcoming these challenges and ensuring minimal downtime.

Job description

At E Tech Group, joining our team means joining a group of passionate and forward-thinking experts. We're one of the largest engineering and system integration firms in the United States providing value for our clients through IT automation and control solutions for more than 30 years to the Life Sciences, Mission Critical, Metals & Mining, Warehousing & Distribution, and CPG/Food & Beverage industries. Our national and global scale allows us to help our clients develop and implement standardized solutions at any of their facilities regardless of physical location or the local resources available at that site.
We're seeking for a hands-on IT Infrastructure Engineer to help keep our IT environment secure, stable, and running smoothly. In this role, you'll support and maintain our Microsoft 365 and on-premises infrastructure, administer identity and endpoint security platforms, manage virtualization and backup systems, and partner with the broader IT team to deliver reliable service to end users across the business. We value someone who takes full responsibility for outcomes, follows through on issues from start to finish, and can independently prioritize and manage their work in a fast-moving environment. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys variety, solving problems, and working across a wide range of modern technologies.
You will:
  • Administer and maintain Active Directory (users, groups, GPOs, OUs, DNS, replication), including health checks, schema/structure cleanups, and migrations as needed.
  • Manage identity and access in Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD), including conditional access, MFA enforcement, role assignments, and hybrid identity sync, and zero trust access models.
  • Administer Microsoft Windows Server and Client operating systems, including patching, hardening, GPO development, PowerShell scripting, and lifecycle management.
  • Build, configure, monitor, and maintain VMware vSphere/ESXi environments including host setup, cluster health, VM provisioning, snapshots, resource optimization, and capacity planning.
  • Manage backup and recovery operations across on-prem, virtual, and cloud workloads, including lifecycle management and recovery validation.
  • Apply security best practices and hardening guides across systems and services.
  • Work within the support ticketing system to respond to end-user requests, manage queues, and meet SLAs.
  • Serve as an escalation point for service desk technicians, providing mentorship and knowledge transfer.
  • Continuously evaluate emerging technologies and recommend improvements to systems, security posture, and operational efficiency.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of the IT department and business objectives.
  • Be an ambassador who embodies our Core Values, prioritizing the success of E Tech Group, our clients, and the professional development of our associates.

You have:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field - or equivalent relevant work experience.
  • Core Technical experience with Active Directory, MS Operating Systems, VMware, and backup systems (cloud, Windows, Linux, and virtual workloads).
  • Experience working within a support ticketing system - responding to end-user requests and supporting the team with escalations.
  • Email security platforms such as Microsoft Defender for Office 365, Proofpoint, or similar.
  • Familiarity with security best practices and hardening guidelines.
  • A DNA comprised of collaboration and teamwork.

You may have:
  • Scripting experience (PowerShell, Bash) for automation and reporting.
  • Familiarity with vulnerability management tools and patch management processes.
  • Endpoint security platforms such as EDR/XDR solutions.

Benefits & Perks:
  • 401k + match + prompt enrollment. E Tech Group employees are 100% vested upon entry.
  • Prompt enrollment into Medical, Dental, and Vision benefits.
  • Generous paid time off that includes paid vacation, paid holidays, paid family leave and sick time off.
  • Learning and growth are key parts of the E Tech culture. We provide you with training and continuing education from day one, so you can advance your career. As an E Tech associate, you can unlock your greatest potential through challenges and opportunities.
