What are undersea cables?

Undersea cables, also known as submarine cables, are specialized cables laid on the seabed between land-based stations to transmit telecommunication signals across stretches of ocean and sea. They are primarily used for international data and voice communication, carrying about 99% of the world's internet traffic. These cables are engineered to withstand harsh underwater environments and can span thousands of kilometers, connecting continents and enabling global connectivity. Their installation and maintenance require specialized ships and technology, making them a critical part of the global communications infrastructure.
