Position Overview
The Instructional Designer/Training Specialist is a technical training role supporting the development, coordination and continuous improvement of competency and compliance-focused learning programmes. This Instructional Designer/Training Specialist opportunity is well suited to candidates with experience in instructional design, eLearning development and technical training delivery within a regulated operational environment. The Instructional Designer/Training Specialist will work closely with operational stakeholders and subject matter experts to help ensure training requirements are defined, maintained and delivered effectively. This Instructional Designer/Training Specialist role offers the chance to make a direct impact on workforce capability, technical development and training quality.
Role Context
This opportunity sits within the oil and gas sector and supports asset-based training requirements within a technical and compliance-driven environment. The role reports to a Training Administration leadership structure and works in partnership with client group leadership and subject matter experts.
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and improve technical training programmes for assigned client groups, selecting appropriate training methods and approaches to meet business and compliance needs.
  • Partner with subject matter experts to create curriculum content and technical learning materials, including written content where required.
  • Develop eLearning modules and ensure learning content is clear, consistent and fit for purpose.
  • Manage competency profiles, training matrices, training calendars and on-the-job training plans to support qualification and competency requirements.
  • Conduct training needs assessments and gap analysis, recommending practical solutions for employee technical development.
  • Coordinate and schedule training activities to support compliance and operational learning requirements.
  • Monitor learner progress and training completion through a learning management system to support regulatory and business requirements.
  • Source specialised training solutions and external course options aligned to training needs.
  • Facilitate stakeholder discussions and support the implementation of training solutions for business-led requests.
  • Translate complex technical information into accessible learning content for target audiences.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Essential:
    Demonstrated experience in a training-related role, including instructional design, training needs analysis and development of learning solutions.
  • Essential:
    Experience developing eLearning materials.
  • Essential:
    Strong knowledge of adult learning theories, training interventions and project-based coordination of training activities.
  • Essential:
    Demonstrated experience developing and editing courses in Articulate Storyline.
  • Essential:
    Experience creating eLearning content from SME-provided information.
  • Essential:
    Experience administering or supporting a Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Essential:
    Experience collaborating with SMEs and stakeholders to develop training solutions.
  • Essential:
    Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to gather, organise and synthesise technical information.

    Strong planning, problem-solving and data analysis skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities through to completion.
  • Essential:
    Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Essential: Possess or be eligible to obtain a valid TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) card.
  • Desirable: Portfolio or work samples showcasing eLearning content developed using Storyline.

    Bachelor's degree in Training, Education, Science, Engineering or a relevant technical discipline.
