Under general direction of the Principal Engineer, Water Resources, the Supervising Engineer, Water Resources manages a section in the Re-evaluation Engineering Branch. The work includes but is not limited to planning, organizing, directing, and monitoring highly technical reviews and projects in dam engineering and assisting in the development of policies, procedures, and engineering technical notes related to the activities within the Re-evaluation Engineering Branch.

Special Requirements
Possession of a valid certificate of registration as a civil engineer issued by the California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers is required. This position requires the incumbent to possess a valid California Driver's License.

This position requires the incumbent be a recognized expert in dam safety. This position requires the incumbent to plan, organize, direct, and monitor the work of a section in the Re-evaluation Engineering Branch. Experience managing and leading multiple projects and necessary resources. Experience planning and leading reviews of large engineering projects for dams or other similar structures. Experience training engineering staff. Experience mentoring engineering staff. Experience performing and reviewing geotechnical engineering analyses for dams or other similar structures. Experience performing and reviewing structural engineering analyses for dams or other similar structures. Experience performing and reviewing hydrologic and hydraulic engineering analyses for dams or other similar structures. Experience with civil engineering software for dams or its appurtenant. Experience with advanced numerical modeling for dams or its appurtenant. Experience reviewing site investigation and exploration plan for dams or other similar structures. Experience reviewing plans for construction projects of dams or other similar structures. Experience reviewing specifications for construction projects of dams or other similar structures. Experience of performing risk evaluations for dams or other similar structures. Experience or knowledge of identifying potential failure modes and estimating failure likelihoods and consequences for dams or other similar structures. Experience preparing engineering reports or memos. Experience reviewing engineering reports and memos prepared by others. Experience presenting engineering studies or evaluations to others including dam owners or general public. Experience with field inspections of dams or other similar structures. Experience with construction inspections for dams or other similar structures. Experience reviewing or performing dam breach analyses and inundation maps for emergency planning. Experience working with public agencies or the general public on dam safety projects. Experience following and implementing agency or department policies and procedures. Maintain consistent and regular attendance. Assignments require some site visits and require driving a vehicle on public roadways or in the field on uneven terrain.
