Job Summary

Assist project management teams by developing, monitoring and updating estimates and/or an integrated project plan and schedule and support project managers via file organization and note taking. Apply methods and techniques, standards, processes, procedures, guidelines and templates, to efficiently manage documents and develop and support the project managers to ensure efficient project execution.

Key Accountabilities

  • Support project team and estimating/scheduling personnel efforts toward the development of the project plan and translating the project plan into the project estimate/schedule.
  • Assist with the preparation of project time and/or cost claims and ensure credibility of the information contained in the estimate/schedule.
  • Support project managers with document controls for each assigned project.
  • Develop master and detail schedules inclusive of major milestones, assignment of costs, labor and equipment to activities, resource leveling, etc.
  • Develop and provide analysis of project estimates or schedules, including, as applicable, software implementation, time impact and delay analysis, and review of periodic schedule updates.
  • Develop professional outward-facing schedule reports for customers.
  • Lead in-person, quick turnaround development sessions for critical scheduling needs.
  • Ensure that required project estimating and/or planning/scheduling controls are appropriately implemented and maintained.
  • Analyze the effects to the critical path activities; identify changes to the project that affect the schedule and develop the recovery schedules and alternate courses of action.
  • Prepare and provide progress reports, trending charts, and project analysis.
  • Develop and record project historical estimate/schedule information and lessons learned.
  • Participate in continuous improvement of the estimating/scheduling organization through benchmarking and maintaining affiliations with industry estimating/scheduling organizations and local/national chapters.
  • Build the infrastructure for other Project Control Specialists and support Project Manager tasks as needed.
  • Lead in-person training and mentoring sessions.
  • Mentor and support lower-level Project Controls staff.

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in technical discipline or business.
  • 6 years of Project Controls experience.

Other Qualifications

  • Possess & maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Strong understanding of compression and pipeline terminology.
  • Strong understanding of engineering, procurement, and construction processes.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Project, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Must be completely autonomous in Project Controls activities and able to mentor lower-level Project Controls professionals.
  • Working knowledge of financial & economic analysis, project & risk management.
  • Navigational skills in project cost systems.
  • Understanding of chart of accounts or cost breakdown systems and alignment with project schedule tasks.
  • Strong knowledge of critical path method (CPM) scheduling, preferably with Microsoft Project, with the ability to develop task logic into project schedules with limited direction.
  • Problem-solving skills and ability to drive customization of the architecture of existing Project Management estimating and reporting software/tools.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical & problem-solving skills with the ability to identify key issues from a broad range of alternatives and recommend optimal solutions for various situations.
  • Ability to apply project planning & implementation and/or continuous improvement principles to affect tangible, positive outcomes.
  • Ability to apply methods and techniques, standards, processes, procedures, guidelines and templates, to efficiently manage, develop, and control project estimates/schedules.
  • Ability to develop/coordinate cross-functional work groups and projects, yielding optimal outcomes.
  • Promotes an atmosphere conducive to the open exchange of new ideas, and alternatives to orthodox approaches.
  • Ability to work in a ‘team’ and/or ‘matrixed’ structure with shifting priorities, supporting multiple clients and ability to embrace new/evolving responsibilities.
  • Assignments are received in the form of results expected, within operating policies and procedures. Incumbent has the discretion to select from alternative approaches; decisions may involve changes to ‘normal’ work processes.
  • Natural gas or hydrocarbon liquids pipeline integrity management experience is a plus.
