Job description

Job Title: Digital Signal Processing Engineer (Sr. Levels)
Department: Engineering
Reports To: Director of Engineering
Job Summary
Vanteon is seeking applicants for a senior-level Digital Signal Processing Engineer position. The specific title will depend on the candidate's level of experience. The candidate will be responsible for modem and waveform development, digital signal processing, analysis & simulation for wireless systems, and RF system design. This is not an entry-level role; it requires advanced education and experience in communications and signal processing. Only qualified applicants will be considered for this position.
Duties/Responsibilities
The following is a list of expected duties for the position. It is not fully inclusive, and additional ones may be assigned as determined by management:
  • Develop and implement algorithms for digital signal processing applications.
  • Design and optimize digital filters, signal transforms, and other signal processing techniques.
  • Analyze and interpret data to extract meaningful insights and develop actionable recommendations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate signal processing solutions into hardware or software systems.
  • Conduct performance evaluation and optimization of signal processing algorithms on various platforms.
  • Participate in the design and development of real-time signal processing systems.
  • Troubleshoot and debug signal processing algorithms and systems to ensure optimal performance.
  • Document design specifications, implementation details, and testing procedures.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to other team members on signal processing-related issues.
  • Conduct research and feasibility studies to explore new signal processing techniques and applications.
  • Perform simulation and modeling of signal processing systems using specialized software tools.

Required Specialized Skills/Knowledge
  • Technical experience with:
    • Digital communications and RF systems experience, including modem and link margin analysis
    • Hardware and FPGA development experience (VHDL or Verilog)
    • Digital filter techniques, Fourier Analysis, and tracking loops
    • RF circuit design (cascades, mixing, amplifiers, filtering, oscillators, etc.)
    • Nonlinear circuits, measurements, and simulation techniques
  • Experience with relevant software tools, including:
    • MATLAB/Simulink, plus DSP Systems Toolbox (required)
    • MathWorks HDL Coder (required)
    • Mentor Graphics ModelSim
    • LabVIEW
    • TI Code Composer Studio
    • Xilinx Vivado and Intel Quartus Prime
  • Experience using signal generators, network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, and logic analyzers
  • Knowledge of common wireless standards and techniques
  • Technical project leadership skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

Education and Experience
  • PhD. (or be in candidacy) in Communications and Signal Processing
  • 5+ years of experience in digital signal processing design (or related academic research)

Other Requirements
  • Training and regular duties require a regular in-office presence. Hybrid/flexible scheduling is available based on business needs.
  • Although minimal, some circumstances may require a weekly commitment above 40 hours or hours outside of regular business hours.
  • Minimal travel may be required for client visits and tradeshows.

Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Be able to perform low to moderately strenuous physical activities requiring standing, walking, and reaching.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

Compensation Range
Although a candidate's compensation will depend heavily on their skills and experience, the anticipated compensation range for this position is $150,000 to $175,000, plus a competitive benefits package.
The position is eligible for a variety of bonuses, including client referrals, employee referrals, publications, and extra effort. Relocation assistance may be available for well-qualified candidates.
