A Dry Van driver is a professional truck driver who transports goods using a 'dry van' trailer, which is a fully enclosed, non-refrigerated trailer designed to protect cargo from the elements. Dry van drivers are responsible for hauling a variety of freight, such as retail products, manufacturing goods, and non-perishable items. They typically operate on regional or long-haul routes, ensuring timely delivery and safe handling of shipments. Dry van trucking is one of the most common and versatile forms of freight transportation in the industry.

What are some common challenges dry van drivers face on the road, and how can they be managed?

Dry van drivers often encounter challenges such as fluctuating delivery schedules, navigating various weather conditions, and dealing with tight loading docks. Effective time management, regular vehicle inspections, and strong communication with dispatch and warehouse staff can help address these issues. Many companies also offer support through advanced routing technology and safety training, which can further ease the day-to-day pressures of the role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a dry van truck driver, and why are they important?

Regional dry van freight with dependable miles
Weekly 34-hour reset every week
Average 1,800–2,400 miles per week
Take your truck home or park at a terminal

Well-planned dry van routes and reliable freight help CDL-A truck drivers maintain steady weekly miles while operating on established regional lanes.

The Position

Regional routes operate primarily east of I-35, providing access to established freight lanes while avoiding many of the heavier Northeast traffic areas.

Drivers average 1,800–2,400 miles each week hauling dry van freight with a combination of drop and hook and live unload, helping maintain a dependable workload from week to week.

Drivers earn $1,450–$1,575 per week, with additional compensation available through CPM pay along with detention, short-haul, breakdown, and stop-pay.

A 34-hour reset is provided every week, with opportunities to extend home time when scheduling allows.

Your Equipment

Modern dry van equipment supports regional operations, and drivers may take their truck home with approved parking or leave it at one of our terminal locations during home time.

Benefits

• Health insurance, life insurance, and 401(k)
• Rider and pet policies
• Fuel card

Applicants must have a valid CDL-A (Class A) License, at least 12 months of tractor-trailer experience within the past three years, experience driving across three or more states, and a current DOT Medical Card.
