Location: Norfolk, VA

NSC Staffing is seeking a skilled Drydock Machinist Mechanic for an exciting upcoming project in Norfolk, VA. We are looking for candidates with 2-10 years of experience as an electrician, with solid working knowledge of shipboard and industrial/commercial practices, especially on military bases and industrial facilities.
Purpose and Functions
The Drydock Machinist Mechanic J4 performs work under specifications and safety standards, ensuring the highest quality professionally. Regular and reliable attendance on-site is essential.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Ability to navigate a ship and drydock, understanding compartment designations.
  • Strong knowledge of technical publications and drawings.
  • Skilled in repairing and installing equipment using mechanical knowledge and technical diagrams.
  • Proficient in diagnosing drydock machinery and mechanical equipment to identify problems and perform necessary repairs, whether the equipment is manually, air hydraulically, or electrically operated.
  • Expertise in using measuring instruments such as micrometers, tachometers, dial indicators, and calipers.
  • Capable of monitoring and interpreting drydock equipment gauges, meters, and alarms to identify potential malfunctions and take corrective actions to ensure continuous operation.
  • Familiarity with all common shop and hand tools.
  • Ability to prepare the drydock for docking operations, including fabrication, preparation, and assembly of drydock blocks, working independently.
  • Experienced in performing drydocking duties, including diesel engine watch and operation of other necessary equipment, without supervision.
  • Knowledgeable in drydock watch duties in accordance with operational procedures and instructions, working autonomously.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Understanding of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and its proper usage.
