Job description

Epsilon Systems Solutions, Inc. is seeking a full time Graving Dock Pipefitter Welder in San Diego, CA.
Summary:
Performs various welding processes to repair, for fabricating, installing, and maintaining piping systems and welded structures foundations and fittings associated with Graving dock floating dry dock hydraulic, pneumatic and water systems. Selects proper materials and requirements to perform welding functions. Fabricates and installs fixtures and jigs required for welding process alignments. The role involves reading blueprints, fitting pipe systems, performing precision welding, and supporting vessel construction and repair projects in shipyards or marine environments.
Duties and Responsibilities :
  • Utilize standard mechanic's tools, ship fitting and welding equipment and tools, wood shaping equipment and tools, portable machine tools, fixtures, and various gauges in the maintenance and repair of SWRMC Graving Dock and docking block construction and disassembly.
  • Operate electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic equipment, including testing equipment, in the performance of duties.
  • Disassemble, clean, inspect, and assess materials and components to determine extent of wear and damage in justification of recommendations for reuse or disposal.
  • Identify materials and components requiring repair or replacement.
  • Support the building, set up, and removal of docking blocks for all docking operations within the SWRMC Graving Dock.
  • Repair and replace damaged and broken equipment components. Ensure post-repair testing to ensure proper operation.
  • Continuously evaluate and analyze the operational condition of machinery and equipment to ensure reliable, efficient, and safe operation.
  • Assist with the installation and removal of shop and dry dock equipment and components.
  • Researching, reading, and following technical manuals, blueprints, drawings, parts manuals, schematics, assembly instructions, and troubleshooting guides.
  • Provide thorough maintenance and repair reporting, documentation, and parts inventory.
  • Submit equipment repair trouble calls via supervision to SWRMC Facilities Division and assist with resolution and tracking.
  • Operate, maintain and repair a variety of graving dock machinery to include but not limited to marine centrifugal pumps of horizontal and vertical type, piston pumps, associated couplings, mechanical seals and shafts, capstans/winches/windlass, towing array equipment and slew motor gear assemblies.
  • Maintain various types of valves and associated piping systems.
  • Monitor mechanical systems on a routine basis for problems or abnormalities, when identified notify supervision, analyze causes, suggest possible solutions, performing corrective action as authorized.
  • Repair, set up, adjust, tear down, dismantle and reassemble various auxiliary mechanical equipment within the facility.
  • Perform machinery operational checks prior to and/or after dock operations as required.
  • Perform machinery operational checks after equipment repairs, changeouts or extended downtime.
  • Perform preventive maintenance equipment checks as required, reporting deficiencies to the supervision.
  • Adhere to strict compliance with all safety procedures and PPE requirements, to include Lockout-Tag-out procedures as required for work being performed.
  • Perform overtime duties as required for pre-docking, docking and undocking, as these evolutions typically take place during the night, to include required watches for the duration of vessel docking periods.

Required Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 4 years Navy and/or Maritime industry work-related experience in the operation maintenance and repair techniques common to a variety of marine machinery, pumps, valves and associated pipping systems
  • GTAW 2-1/2" steel pipe 70S2 and RN-82 in the 6G position
  • SMAW steel plate 11018 in the vertical/horizontal positions
  • Grade III and Grade V Brazing in the vertical/horizontal positions, to include face-feed and insert type fittings
  • Knowledge of Lockout Tag-out procedures
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Security Clearance
  • Ability to make decisions using sound judgment while complying with policies, procedures and appropriate applicable technical guidance
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, drawings, blueprints, technical manuals, repair standards and other detailed written instructions
  • Sound interpersonal skills and ability to communicate clearly, accurately and effectively across a wide range of seniority levels with both govt and active-duty military
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Valid driver's license
  • Obtain and maintain a valid forklift driver's license for operation of up to 10-ton forklifts

Obtain within 90 days of hire
  • PQS 301 Craftsmen qualification
  • Lock Out Tag Out training

Obtain within 12 Months of hire
  • Graving dock pump room qualification
  • Graving dock sluice gate qualification
  • Graving Dock Caison operator

Pay Range:
The pay range for this role is $26.26 - $32.53 Per Hour. This is a reasonable estimate for this role. Individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
ADA Notations:
Requires working, walking, reaching, sitting and concentration in the presence of noise.
Ability to move in narrow and restricted passageways, up/down steep and narrow ladders or stairways.
Ability to lift, carry and move objects up to 50 lbs. in weight.
Noise conditions range from very quiet to loud.
Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to hard hat, safety glasses/goggles, ear plugs/muffs, masks/respirators, safety vests, gloves and steel-toe boots.
