Job description

Job Summary

This position is for a Quality Control Supervisor in a cement lab and requires previous cement industry experience and ACI certifications.

The Quality Control Supervisor reports to the Quality Control Manager and carries out duties related to chemical and instrument analysis, including physical testing.

Compensation

$75K - 100K Annual Salary

Responsibilities
  • Directly supervises a team of hourly Laboratory Technicians
  • Reviews QC data daily and reports discrepancies to the manager in a timely manner
  • Responsible for administering the department safety program
  • Responsible for the maintenance and calibration of all QC-related analytical equipment
  • Provides formal, written reports to manager as required
  • Responsible for maintaining departmental cleanliness and efficiency
  • Generates and tracks equipment repair requests and purchases departmental supplies
  • Reviews and approves departmental payroll; creates work schedules and ensures vacation coverage
  • Assists department manager with the performance of stockpile measurements/inventory control
Education

ACI Certifications (required)

Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or related field

Requirements/Qualifications
  • Experience in a cement industry required 
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Accurate and timely with data analysis and reports
  • Able to teach others
  • Good use of Microsoft Office tools, i.e., Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to quickly learn and master proprietary software associated with analytical equipment
  • Strong troubleshooting skills to determine and rectify mechanical and electrical problems
  • Physical requirements: ability to sit, stand, stoop, and bend for extended periods of time (up to 8 hours); climb stairs and ladders as high as 380 feet in elevation; ability to lift and carry 70lbs. up stairs; must be able to walk long distances, climb ladders, stairs, and stockpiles, stoop, and crawl under and into enclosed spaces
  • Walk on all types of surfaces (uneven and/or slippery ground)
  • Must be able to use proper Personal Protective Equipment as required
  • Ability to see and hear safety indicators and warnings
  • Must work in all weather conditions: heat, cold, wet, dry and/or dusty conditions and near hot kiln process
  • Will have exposure to all levels of noise that require the use of hearing protection
  • Exposure to cement, clay, limestone and various lab chemicals; see MSDS for more details
  • Ability to work in surroundings that include heat, dust, vibration, heights and confined spaces

Preferred:

  • Experience with a large ERP system, SAP a plus
Conditions of Employment

Successful candidate must submit to post-offer pre-employment physical examination, drug/alcohol screen, and background check. Some positions require FMCSA regulated on-going drug and alcohol testing.
