What are some common challenges faced by professionals in Drafting Cabinet roles, and how can they be addressed?

Drafting Cabinet professionals often encounter challenges such as interpreting client specifications accurately, managing revisions during the design process, and staying updated with evolving cabinetry materials and hardware. Effective communication with clients, architects, and production teams is essential to ensure that designs meet functional and aesthetic requirements. Adopting advanced CAD software and regularly participating in industry training can help overcome these challenges and improve workflow efficiency.

What are drafting cabinet makers?

Drafting cabinet makers are professionals who specialize in designing, planning, and creating detailed drawings or blueprints for cabinets and other types of custom furniture. They use specialized software or manual techniques to translate ideas and measurements into technical plans that builders and carpenters can follow. These drawings ensure that cabinets are built accurately according to specifications, taking into account materials, dimensions, and functionality. Drafting cabinet makers often work closely with clients, architects, and construction teams to ensure the final product meets design requirements.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Cabinet Drafter, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Cabinet Drafter, you need strong technical drawing skills, spatial awareness, and knowledge of cabinetry construction, typically supported by an associate degree or certification in drafting or design. Proficiency in CAD software such as AutoCAD or SketchUp and familiarity with woodworking standards are essential. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication help ensure designs are accurate and meet client specifications. These skills are crucial for producing precise, buildable plans that support efficient manufacturing and customer satisfaction.

Description
This Isn't Your Average Drafting Job
If you've built cabinets, installed them, and you know your way around cabinet design, we want to talk to you.
At TVID Interiors, our Cabinet Designer doesn't just push drawings through a pipeline. You'll be a key player in bringing interior projects to life, working alongside a team that genuinely respects your expertise and expects you to use it. Every project brings something new. Every completed job is something you can point to and say, "I had a hand in that."
Who We Are
Franklin Building Supply is an established, employee-owned lumber and building materials distributor with a hand in every stage of the process, from cabinet production and countertop fabrication to a full design showroom where we help clients bring their spaces to life. We're not just selling materials; we're part of the build from concept to completion.
We're a close-knit, collaborative group of professionals who take our work seriously, value each other's perspectives, and solve problems together rather than passing the buck. Our culture isn't something we put on a poster; it's why people stay.
What You'll Do
You'll be the technical backbone of our project process, translating design concepts into precise drawings, take-offs, and cost estimates that set up our sales, design, and production teams for success. Day to day, that looks like:
  • Building accurate cabinet material take-offs from architectural drawings
  • Creating 2D and 3D renderings in Cabinet Vision to communicate designs to builders and contractors
  • Generating detailed estimates for materials, labor, and overall project costs
  • Collaborating with Account Coordinators, Sales, and Design teams to keep projects aligned
  • Reviewing and revising drawings as designs evolve

No two projects are identical. That's by design.
Requirements
What We're Looking For
Required:
  • Proficiency in Cabinet Design (Cabinet Vision 11 or later, 2020 Design, Mosaik, or AutoCad)
  • Hands-on experience building or installing cabinets (or both)
  • Strong math skills and comfort with estimating material and labor costs
  • Excellent organizational habits and ability to juggle multiple projects
  • Clear written and verbal communication
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, and email
  • Employment Eligibility: Franklin Building Supply participates in E-Verify. All new hires must be legally authorized to work in the United States and will be verified through the federal E-Verify system.

Preferred:
  • 3+ years in cabinetry drafting, woodworking design, cabinetry installation, cabinetry construction, or a related field
  • Deep knowledge of cabinet construction methods and material specifications
  • Experience working under tight deadlines without sacrificing accuracy

What We Offer
  • ~$20-$24/hr
  • Excellent health, vision, and dental insurance - one of the things our team consistently highlights
  • Employee ownership: you're not just working here, you have a stake in it
  • A workplace where your opinion is heard and your problem-solving is valued
  • A stable, established company with a culture people actually want to be part of

Room to Grow
This role has a clear path; the next step is Supervisor of Estimating & Drafting. If you take ownership of your work and want to grow, we'll support that.
Sound Like You?
If you know cabinet design, understand cabinets from the inside out, and want a team that takes pride in their craft - apply today.
