Position Summary:
The full‑time Doula walks alongside patients through pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period, offering education, advocacy, and steady emotional and physical support. The role helps individuals feel grounded and prepared, while collaborating with healthcare teams and community organizations to create a connected, compassionate care experience. Travel between our Asbury Park, Red Bank, Freehold, and Keyport locations is part of the position to ensure consistent support for all patients.
Principal Responsibilities:
Prenatal Support
Provide education and support to pregnant patients regarding pregnancy, birth preparation, and postpartum expectations.
Assist patients in understanding available maternal health services and community resources.
Support development of birth preferences prior to delivery and assist patients in implementing those preferences during labor and birth at affiliated hospitals or birthing centers.
Provide emotional support and continuity of care throughout pregnancy.
Postpartum Support
Provide postpartum emotional support and adjustment counseling within scope of practice.
Offer education on infant feeding, breastfeeding basics, newborn care, and maternal recovery.
Support patients with navigation of community resources such as WIC, behavioral health, and social services.
Provide follow-up support via scheduled clinic-based visits, phone calls, or virtual communication as assigned.
Care Coordination and Patient Support
Support communication between patients and the maternal health care team as appropriate.
Assist patients in accessing clinic services and external community resources.
Reinforce patient education provided by clinical staff.
Maintain appropriate documentation in accordance with CHC policies and confidentiality standards.
Job Competencies & Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED.
Current and active Doula Certification from a recognized doula training program.
Knowledge of pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding, infant feeding, and postpartum care
Experience working with diverse, underserved, and high‑risk populations.
Strong communication, interpersonal, and advocacy skills.
Ability to support patients during long or unpredictable labor experiences and work flexible, non‑traditional hours, including on‑call availability.
Strong emotional resilience and ability to work in high‑intensity birth environments.
Experience in community health, maternal‑child health, or public health settings.
Bilingual skills preferred(Spanish and/or Haitian Creole preferred).
Familiarity with healthcare systems, prenatal services, and community resources.
Current CPR certification
Valid driver’s license and auto insurance

Working Conditions/Physical Demand: Working indoors with client/customer contact. Ability to remain physically present for extended periods (may include standing, walking, sitting, and bending for long durations). Traveling to all CHC sites.

In compliance with New Jersey's Pay Transparency Act, the compensation range for this position is USD $26.00 to USD $34.00.
