Job Description:


Are you an experienced transportation leader ready to take ownership of a growing fleet? Cozzi Recycling is looking for a full-time Fleet Manager to join our team in Bellwood, IL. This role oversees the daily performance of a fleet of approximately 20-25 trucks and leads a team of two Dispatchers and one Transportation Safety Manager, with accountability for safety, productivity, customer service, and overall operational profitability.


Responsibilities: The candidate must:


  • Oversee daily operation and performance of approximately 20-25 company trucks, including dispatching, routing, scheduling, and asset utilization


  • Monitor key performance indicators such as revenue, cost per mile, equipment utilization, driver productivity, and on-time service


  • Develop and implement operational strategies to improve efficiency and profitability


  • Coordinate equipment availability, maintenance schedules, and fleet replacement planning


  • Directly supervise and mentor two Dispatchers and one Transportation Safety Manager, setting performance expectations and accountability standards


  • Conduct coaching, training, evaluations, and development planning for transportation staff


  • Partner with the Transportation Safety Manager to ensure compliance with DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, and company safety requirements


  • Monitor driver qualification files, Hours of Service compliance, accident investigations, and corrective action programs


  • Maintain strong relationships with customers, vendors, and drivers, resolving service issues promptly


  • Deliver strong customer service to both internal and external customers, acting as a key point of contact for drivers, dispatchers, and other departments internally, and for customers and vendors externally


  • Manage transportation budgets and operating expenses, reviewing fuel, maintenance, and labor costs for savings opportunities


  • Prepare operational reports, performance metrics, and management summaries


Requirements

Requirements: The candidate will:


  • Have 5+ years of transportation, trucking, logistics, or fleet management experience


  • Have prior supervisory or management experience overseeing dispatch, drivers, or transportation personnel


  • Have strong knowledge of DOT, FMCSA, safety, and compliance regulations


  • Have strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills


  • Be proficient with transportation management systems, fleet software, and Microsoft Office


Preferred Experience:


  • Background managing local, regional, construction, recycling, industrial, or commercial transportation operations
