Job description

DOOR HOST JOB SUMMARY
The door host is responsible for taking reasonable steps to: (1) protect the safety of our guests and employees, (2) enforce Company policies in compliance with the ABC Act and similar laws, including, but not limited to, not allowing entry by individuals who are under the age of 21 or individuals showing signs of intoxication, and (3) protect the property of our guests, the Company, and our employees.  The door host is also responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the venue and taking out the trash, performing bussing duties as directed by the MOD, and assisting with band and entertainer load-ins and load outs as directed by the MOD.
 
Our door hosts are the first person that our guests see and are the employees to whom guests and other employees turn to when they have a question or a concern regarding guest conduct.  Our door hosts therefore must greet guests in a warm, professional, and accommodating manner, and maintain positive, safe, and professional interactions with all guests, coworkers, and management team members.
 
DOOR HOST ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Manage admission to the premises by checking guestsโ€™ identifications and compliance with the Company dress code, guest conduct policies and other venue policies in a friendly manner.
  • Monitor for, and take steps to prevent and control guest conduct issues such as over consumption of alcohol, rowdy conduct or belligerent behavior
  • Intervene in incidents involving guests acting in a rowdy or belligerent manner to protect all guests and employees, take control of guests involved in incidents, and remove those guests from the venue
  • Maintain a positive, high, well-balanced energy level throughout the entire shift
  • Have strong interpersonal communication skills in order to greet guests, answer guest questions and address guest concerns in a warm, professional, and accommodating manner
  • Exhibit consistently dependable, reliable, punctual, and trustworthy conduct
  • Acknowledge guests in a friendly manner, both when they arrive and when they leave.  Be assertive and sincere in greeting guests
  • Clean empty glassware on railings and tables, and clean napkins, paper and other items off the table and floor to keep the venue clean and organized
  • Monitor the restroom supplies and cleanliness to keep them clean and organized when restroom attendants are not on duty
  • Maintain a professional appearance and perform the position duties in a professional manner
  • Complete any and all assigned cleaning duties, including stocking and organization
  • Perform all assigned side-work quickly and efficiently
  • Properly set up and break down stations before and after operating hours
DOOR HOST SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITY
  • Knowledge of Teamwork and Toast POS system
  • Ability to read, write and speak the English language to interact with guests, the public and coworkers
  • Proficient verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and professionally deal with stressful situations during busy periods in a loud, busy, and crowded environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills to provide overall guest satisfaction and be able to manage guest behavior

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
Education
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent preferred
Experience
  • Minimum of two yearsโ€™ experience in a fast-paced restaurant/bar
Age
  • Must be at least 18 to meet minimum age requirement of the State of Tennessee to serve alcoholic beverages
Licenses or Certificates:
  • Unarmed Security License required
  • Dallas' Law Certification required
Physical Conditioning
  • Door hosts should be in overall good physical shape because of the positionโ€™s physical requirements.  There are no height or weight requirements
GROOMING
  • All employees must wear the proper uniform and maintain a neat, clean and well-groomed appearance in accordance with the Companyโ€™s grooming standards.  This policy is implemented in compliance with the Companyโ€™s obligations related to accommodating religious beliefs and practices, medical conditions and disabilities.
 
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Move quickly through crowded areas of a busy venue in a safe manner in order to get to and handle guest situations
  • Judge whether a guest is intoxicated based upon that guestโ€™s appearance, speech, breath, actions, and behavior
  • Read and verify validity of identification cards such as driverโ€™s licenses
  • Handle pressure situations and problem guests in a professional manner
  • Communicate with guests and employees in a professional manner
  • Handle verbal and physical abuse as a result of guest misconduct in a professional manner and be able to control those problems when possible.
  • Take reasonable steps to physically control guests who are engaged in violent behavior to help prevent injury to other guests, employees, and the guests involved in the behavior. This requires physically being able to handle people wrestling and fighting with you, being jerked, twisted, scratched, grabbed, punched, banged into people and objects, and falling or being thrown onto the ground.
  • Work until early morning hours of approximately 3:00 a.m. and be available on weekends, holidays, and odd hours
  • Lift a full trash can (about 100 lbs.).
  • Must be able to work in an environment with constantly elevated temperatures
