Advancement Gift Officer - part time, year around

Job Summary

The Gift Officer is a part-time member of the Holland Christian Schools Advancement Team responsible for building and strengthening relationships with families, alumni, grandparents, and friends of Holland Christian Schools. This position will manage a portfolio of approximately 150200 families and prospective donors, developing relationships, sharing the story and mission of Holland Christian, and inviting them into partnership with the school.

The ideal candidate will be someone who is passionate about the mission of Holland Christian Schools and enjoys connecting with people. Previous fundraising experience is welcomed but is not required. More important is the ability to build trust, communicate well, listen carefully, and help others understand the impact their generosity can have at Holland Christian.

The Gift Officer will work closely with the Director of Advancement, Advancement Team, school leadership, and Stewardship Committee to grow philanthropic support for Holland Christian's mission and strategic priorities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage a portfolio of approximately 150200 Holland Christian families, donors, and prospective donors, developing intentional and ongoing relationships with each.
  • Build relationships through personal meetings, phone calls, school events, written communication, and other meaningful points of connection.
  • Learn the interests, passions, and connection each donor has with Holland Christian and help connect those interests with opportunities to support the school's mission, students, programs, and strategic priorities.
  • Clearly and enthusiastically share the Holland Christian story, including the school's mission, vision, current priorities, and the impact of charitable giving.
  • Invite donors and prospective donors to consider financial partnership with Holland Christian when appropriate, including support for the Tuition Grant Fund, capital priorities, HC Foundation, and other identified needs.
  • Develop relationships with individuals and families who are already connected to Holland Christian while also helping identify and engage prospective new donors.
  • Work collaboratively with the Director of Advancement and Advancement Team to establish annual relationship, activity, and fundraising goals appropriate to the position.
  • Maintain consistent communication and follow-up with assigned families, including personalized emails, letters, phone calls, and face-to-face meetings.
  • Participate in Advancement Team planning, strategy discussions, donor events, and other school activities that provide opportunities to strengthen relationships within the Holland Christian community.
  • Partner with members of the Stewardship Committee and school leadership when their involvement would strengthen a donor relationship or conversation.
  • Maintain records of donor interactions, interests, commitments, and next steps within Holland Christian's Blackbaud CRM system.
  • Meet established goals for donor visits, meaningful contacts, portfolio engagement, and philanthropic support.
  • Represent Holland Christian Schools warmly, professionally, and in a manner consistent with its Christian mission and values.

Qualifications and Attributes

The strongest candidate will demonstrate:

  • A genuine commitment to and enthusiasm for the mission of Holland Christian Schools.
  • A natural ability to build relationships and connect comfortably with a wide variety of people.
  • Strong listening skills and excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • The ability to communicate the Holland Christian story in an authentic and conversational way.
  • A collaborative approach and desire to work as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational skills and consistent attention to follow-up
  • The ability to work independently, manage a portfolio, prioritize responsibilities, and take initiative.
  • A goal-oriented mindset with a willingness to work toward measurable fundraising outcomes.
  • Good judgment and discretion when working with confidential donors and financial information.
  • Comfort inviting individuals and families into conversations about charitable giving.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree preferred; equivalent professional and life experience may also be considered.
  • Experience in a relationship-focused role is preferred but does not need to be specifically within fundraising or advancement.
  • Familiarity with Holland Christian Schools or the broader Holland Christian community is preferred but not required.
