Job description

Unmanned Systems Operator III (Electric Transmission)

Job Summary

The Electric Transmission Unmanned Systems Operator focuses on supporting routine and rapid response of unmanned systems inspections throughout the Dominion Energy electrical infrastructure. Additional responsibilities will include conducting sUAS training, consulting, and data processing. This position is based out of Richmond, VA but will entail frequent travel across the Dominion Energy footprint (Dominion Energy VA).

Responsibilities and duties:

  • Operate with a safety mindset at all times;

  • Develop flight plans, check NOTAMS, check weather and coordinate airspace integration with any affected controlling agencies or privately-owned properties;

  • Conduct pre-mission briefs and complete safety risk assessments prior to flight as well as after-action reviews upon post-flight;

  • May be responsible for entire inspection projects having modest and or considerable scope and impact to department or serving business unit;

  • Responsible for company vehicle and high dollar unmanned systems;

  • Maintain strict compliance with all FAA Part 107 sUAS rules and regulations or other rules established by the FAA or other Governing bodies;

  • Execute UAS operations in accordance with Dominion Energy policy and procedures;

  • Solve complex problems and provide a new perspective on existing solutions;

  • Lead and conduct training classes and act as a resource for colleagues with less experience;

  • Collaborate with coworkers, partners and clients on projects;

  • Serve as the face of the company on the ground, providing superior customer service;

  • Perform minor integration and maintenance on the aircraft;

  • Travel frequently (up to 25 to 50%)

  • Perform other duties as requested or assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

5+ years of directly related experience.

Specific knowledge, skills, abilities and experience include:

  • Experience inspecting electrical infrastructure and determining critical findings;

  • Experience in inspection of electrical infrastructure components leading to identification of necessary actions;

  • Knowledge of the electrical regulatory compliance guidelines;

  • 14 CFR Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate within 2 months of start date;

  • Knowledge of utilizing sUAS-related post-processing software to include GIS software;

  • Ability to manipulate precise instrumentation with coordination;

  • Good knowledge of aviation principles;

  • Ability to provide instruction and guidance to others through formal training and day-to-day interactions;

  • Ability to work independently as well as supportively within a team;

  • Demonstrated willingness to learn

  • Position does have a pre-employment requirement for FFD (fit for duty testing).

Preferred:

  • The ideal candidate will have a background in sUAS as well as with other robotic operations (submersibles, ROV's);

  • Knowledgeable with various unmanned systems (Air, Land & Maritime), demonstrating in-depth knowledge and experience, to include comprehensive knowledge of all practices and procedures;

  • Private Pilot or Commercial Pilot License with Instrument Rating;

  • Experience on sUAS fixed-wing aircraft, rotorcraft, LiDAR.

  • Graduate of line worker development program.

Education Requirements

Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education: Associate

Preferred Discipline(s): Aviation, Software Development, Robotics

Other related disciplines may be substituted for the preferred disciplines listed above.

Licenses, Certifications, or Quals Description

Required:

14 CFR Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate or will obtain Certificate within 2 months of start date.

Driver's license and clean driving record; will operate a company vehicle.

Preferred:

Private Pilot or Commercial Pilot License with Instrument Rating

Working Conditions
