Job description

Head Tennis Coach for an All Honors High School

Dominican Academy, an all-honors high school, which is part of the Archdiocese of NY and sponsored by the Dominican Veritas Ministries, seeks a head coach for our varsity tennis team for the fall season. Dominican Academy is a member of the Catholic High School Athletic Association (CHSAA). Students come from diverse backgrounds and experiences to form a community of motivated and compassionate leaders, who want to make a positive change in our world. Potential candidates should be aware of the school's Catholic mission and commitment to develop each student-athlete's mind, body, heart and spirit both on and off the court.

Qualifications and Skills:
Bachelor's degree, preferably in physical education or related field.
Experience either as a volleyball player or coach and versed in the rules and regulations of volleyball.
Trained or willingness to train in Basic Life Support (BLS), which includes CPR/AED training, and the use of Epinephrine Auto-Injector (EAI).
Communicate effectively with student-athletes, parents, and administration.
Attentiveness to the social-emotional needs of high school students.
A passion for motivating student-athletes and creating team bonding and school spirit through athletics.

Key Responsibilities Include:
Conduct practice sessions and attend games in the after school hours during the week, which may include travel in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Westchester and Staten Island. (Team and coaches travel on chauffeured bus.)
Responsible for the conduct of the team both during practices and games and responsible for the team's compliance with the CHSAA's code of conduct (provided separately).

Additional Information:
Season begins in mid-August with team tryouts and pre-season practices, and ends in late October, early November depending on playoffs.
Assistant coach attends annual Athletic Banquet and Awards Dinner in May.
