Job description

The Manager of Volunteer Services functions under the direct supervision of the Director of Social and Volunteer Services and is responsible for the daily management and coordination of the agency’s Volunteer Programs. The Manager of Volunteer Services oversees the provision of volunteer services to hospice patients and families and survivors; assists the Director of Social and Volunteer Services in the creation, development, and implementation of agency/departmental initiatives; and assures the provision of quality patient care and compliance with all QAPI and regulatory requirements.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in nonprofit administration/management, healthcare administration, human services, or a related field
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in volunteer management, preferably in a healthcare or hospice setting
  • Certification in Volunteer Administration preferred
  • Must have reliable transportation to perform tasks and responsibilities in a timely and appropriate fashion
  • Must be able to provide proof of automobile insurance and possess a valid driver’s license copies of which will be placed in the employee’s file

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides leadership and oversight of Volunteer Department staff and volunteers and provides personnel

management for assigned volunteer services staff, including hiring, orientation, evaluation, staff productivity and performance improvement, staffing levels and team assignments, and payroll authorization

  • Assures the development and implementation of volunteer plans of care for patients, families, and survivors in conjunction with the Interdisciplinary Team
  • Serves as an expert on and provides volunteer and staff support and direction in risky and/or complex issues and facilitates interdisciplinary communication and teamwork to identify and manage cases and in conjunction with the Director of Social and Volunteer Services when needed
  • Address any conflicts or issues that arise with volunteers, patients, families, and/or staff promptly and

effectively

  • Participates in the orientation of new departmental staff and volunteers; provides and/or makes provisions for Departmental onboarding and oversight; provides regular supervision to Volunteer Coordinators and those providing volunteer support inclusive of student interns
  • Assures accurate and appropriate documentation of all department staff and volunteers to ensure quality patient care and reimbursement; engages in on-going chart review for compliance
  • Works with the Director of Social and Volunteer Services to enhance and update programs and standards of practice for hospice volunteer support and utilization
  • Identifies and assists in the application for grants or donations to support the volunteer program
  • Demonstrates the importance of sound financial management and productivity; operates within budget; recommends methods to reduce costs
  • Facilitates on-going, regular communication with volunteer, agency staff around volunteer and Department activities via newsletters, e-mails, etc.
  • Ensures and assist in maintaining compliance with regulatory and certifying bodies (Medicare, AHCA, Joint Commission)
  • Models behavior consistent with the Company’s HIPAA Compliance Standards; understands and adheres to Company policy and HIPAA compliance standards and implements initiatives to achieve the Company’s compliance goals and assures assigned staff do the same
  • Represents Volunteer Services at team meetings, in policy and program development activities, and as a member of the management team
  • Develops and maintains effective working relationships with other agencies and community providers/partners
  • Understands the industry segments addressed by GHS and makes a conscious effort to continually upgrade industry knowledge as well a commitment to continuing education in area of practice/discipline
  • Understands the underlying technology used by the company to deliver its services and makes a conscious effort to continually enhance this knowledge; troubleshoots and supports staff in their use of agency technology
  • Performs other duties as assigned consistent with skills and training and the mission and goals of GHS
