Job description

Peoples Gas Light and Coke Company (PGL), a subsidiary of WEC Energy Group, is seeking Associate Document Control Specialist/Document Control Specialist (DCS) at various Chicago area locations: Chicago AON Office, Waukegan Main Office, North Shop, South Shop and Central Shop. This is a Hybrid position working both in remote and at a PGL or North Shore Gas (NSG) location.

The Document Control Specialist position is part of the (Associate Document Control Specialist and Document Control Specialist) job family and experience will be the determining factor.

Job Summary

The Document Control Specialist is responsible for supporting the full project document lifecycle for capital construction projects. This role ensures project-related company documents are properly stored, managed, tracked, reviewed, and released in accordance with company document control procedures, standardized workflows, and records retention requirements.  


The Document Control Specialist will be responsible for scanning, imaging, organizing, maintaining, and tracking project-related documents throughout the document lifecycle. This position will ensure documentation is processed accurately and in compliance with company document control procedures and the records retention schedule for capital construction.


The Document Control Specialist will prepare documents for transmittal using established workflows and a combination of required hardware and software systems. This includes reviewing documentation for completeness, accuracy, and proper approvals before information is released internally or shared with third-party vendors.


This role serves as a final point of quality control by verifying that all required approvals have been obtained prior to releasing controlled documents. The Document Control Specialist will also support team members by assisting peers with basic training, answering process-related questions, and helping staff follow proper document control procedures.

Job Responsibilities
  • Complete Document Control functions of document fulfillment, release, change, archiving, completing all metadata and data entry. Coordinate with other departments for collecting, inputting and filing all data and reports relating to project life cycle. Review documents to ensure they are up-to-date, properly filled and accessible and ready for audit at all times.
  • Review documents received to ensure completeness and compliance with document control requirements. Provide feedback to the supplier of the documents as needed and make corrections if necessary.
  • Maintain all pertinent tracking logs for documentation handled within the document control department
  • Respond to and fulfill all internal and external drawing and document requests, utilizing strong interpersonal skills and attention to detail.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 3+ years of experience in Microsoft Office products and Adobe Professional. Scanning and printing with OCE plotters, and experience should include working in an electronic Document Management System.
  • High School Diploma, HSED, or GED 

Associate Document Control Specialist

  • 1+ years of experience in providing support on major construction programs, preferably within a utility.
  • 1+ years of administrative and data entry experience in any setting

Document Control Specialist

  • 3+ years of experience in providing support on major construction programs, preferably within a utility.
  • 3+ years of administrative and data entry experience in any setting
  • 3+ years or experience in Document Control environment in an engineering or construction company, oil and gas or within a utility
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate Degree is Preferred

Pay Range Minimum:  $24.88 

Pay Range Maximum:  $46.49 

The pay range reflects the minimum and maximum for the position at the time of posting and may be modified in the future. The starting salary/pay within the pay range will be based on several factors, as applicable, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, shift, travel requirements, collective bargaining agreements, and business and organizational needs.  At WEC Energy Group, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role.
