Job Title: QC Manager-MEP Fabrication & Construction
Location: Georgetown, SC

Overview: Summary

Our client is currently seeking driven individuals with proven performance in Quality Control. The QC Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and enforcing a comprehensive Quality Control program across all phases of MEP fabrication and modular construction-from material receipt through field installation and final commissioning. This role serves as the primary owner of the company's ITP (Inspection & Test Plan) framework, weld quality, NDE coordination, punch list governance, and drawing review process.

The QC Manager works closely with production, engineering, procurement, and field supervision to ensure that all deliverables meet client specifications, applicable codes, and internal quality standards.

FLSA Status: Exempt - Salaried
Travel: Up to 10% (field startup, site audits, punch-list close-out)

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Maintain Non-Conformance Report (NCR) registers, lead root-cause investigations, and manage corrective action implementation and close-out.

  • Develop and administer punch list tracking systems from initial issuance through final project acceptance.

  • Oversee quality control activities for fabricated piping and mechanical skids, modular process buildings, HVAC systems, electrical distribution assemblies, and structural supports.

  • Coordinate non-destructive examination (NDE) activities, including RT, UT, MT, and PT, with certified third-party inspection firms; review and approve NDE reports.

  • Manage weld documentation and traveler packages in accordance with ASME, AWS, and client-specific welding procedures (WPS/PQR).

  • Conduct in-process, final dimensional, and visual inspections; witness hydrostatic and pneumatic pressure testing.

  • Verify material traceability and documentation, including MTRs and certifications, from receipt through installation.

  • Perform quality reviews of fabrication drawings, P&IDs, isometrics, equipment drawings, and single-line diagrams to ensure code compliance, constructability, and alignment with contract requirements.

  • Coordinate drawing revisions and RFI processes between engineering, production, field teams, and clients.

  • Maintain current revision-controlled drawings and documentation in both fabrication shops and field environments.

  • Ensure weld maps, spool sheets, turnover packages, and as-built documentation are accurately maintained and archived.

  • Provide QC oversight during module setting, mechanical completion, commissioning, and startup activities.

  • Lead and participate in client and owner walkdowns, managing punch list development, assignment, tracking, and close-out.

  • Interface with Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs), commissioning agents, third-party inspectors, and owner quality representatives.

  • Conduct pre-shipment inspections to verify compliance with project quality requirements prior to release.

  • Train shop and field personnel on quality procedures, inspection methods, documentation standards, and compliance requirements.

  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, ASME B31.3/B31.1, NFPA 70, AWS D1.1, and project-specific quality standards.

  • Maintain welder qualification records and coordinate qualification and requalification testing as required.

Required Skills:
  • Proficient reading P&IDs, process piping isometrics, electrical single-lines, mechanical equipment drawings, and structural drawings.

  • Solid understanding of ASME pressure piping codes (B31.1, B31.3), AWS D1.1 structural welding, and NFPA 70 electrical installation requirements.

  • Experience with NDE methods, pressure testing protocols, and material traceability documentation.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for punch list, NCR, and inspection tracking; experience with project management or QMS software a plus.

  • Regular time in a fabrication shop environment; exposure to noise, welding, grinding, and fabrication equipment.

  • Field travel to active construction sites; must be able to navigate elevated structures, scaffolding, and confined spaces with appropriate PPE.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs; prolonged standing, walking, and inspection activities.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Civil, or Electrical Engineering-OR-Associate's degree with 8+ years of directly relevant QC/QA experience in lieu of degree.

  • Minimum 7 years of QC experience in MEP fabrication, mechanical contracting, or industrial construction.

  • Minimum 3 years in a QC leadership or supervisory role.

  • Required Certifications (or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire): AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) - active certification preferred, and OSHA 30-Hour Construction.
