HumCap’s client, a leading electronics manufacturing services (EMS) provider, is seeking a Document Control Specialist to support documentation processes within a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for maintaining the integrity, accuracy, and accessibility of engineering, quality, production, and customer documentation to support operational excellence and compliance requirements. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and experienced in document control within a manufacturing, electronics, or quality-driven environment.
Position Summary
The Document Control Specialist will oversee the creation, revision, distribution, and retention of controlled documents related to manufacturing operations, engineering change orders (ECOs), quality systems, work instructions, customer specifications, and regulatory requirements. This position serves as a critical liaison between Engineering, Quality, Production, Supply Chain, and Customer Service teams to ensure documentation is accurate, current, and readily available.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and administer document control systems, ensuring all controlled documents are accurate, current, and properly archived.
- Process engineering change orders (ECOs), document revisions, and product updates in accordance with company procedures.
- Manage the release and distribution of manufacturing documentation, including work instructions, bills of materials (BOMs), drawings, procedures, and quality records.
- Ensure proper version control and traceability of engineering and production documents.
- Coordinate document reviews and approvals with engineering, quality, and operations personnel.
- Support new product introductions (NPI) by organizing and controlling customer and engineering documentation.
- Maintain customer specifications, manufacturing standards, and quality documentation in compliance with internal and external requirements.
- Assist with internal, customer, and regulatory audits by providing controlled documentation and records.
- Monitor document retention schedules and ensure secure storage and retrieval of records.
- Train employees on document control procedures and best practices.
- Identify process improvement opportunities to enhance document accuracy, efficiency, and accessibility.
- Generate reports and documentation metrics to support management and operational goals.
Qualifications
Required
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- 2+ years of document control experience in manufacturing, electronics, engineering, quality, or a related industry.
- Strong knowledge of document management principles, revision control, and records retention practices.
- Experience working with engineering drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), work instructions, and manufacturing documentation.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and SharePoint.
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
Preferred
- Experience in electronics manufacturing, PCB assembly, contract manufacturing, or related industries.
- Familiarity with ERP, MRP, PLM, or electronic document management systems (EDMS).
- Experience supporting ISO 9001, AS9100, IPC, or other quality management systems.
- Understanding of engineering change processes and configuration management.
