Edgewater Technical Associates is seeking qualified candidates for a Procedure Writer opportunity in Jonesborough, TN.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically proficient Procedure Writer to develop, revise, and maintain operational procedures supporting an industrial manufacturing project within the nuclear industry. This role ensures that all documentation aligns with regulatory requirements, quality standards, engineering specifications, and the highest standards of personnel and operational safety. The Procedure Writer plays a critical role in supporting a strong nuclear safety culture by developing clear, accurate, and compliant procedures that promote safe work practices, reduce human error, and ensure consistent execution of work.
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, revise, and maintain procedures for manufacturing, testing, maintenance, quality assurance, and operational activities.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs), engineers, operations personnel, quality, and Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) representatives to gather technical content and ensure procedures accurately reflect safe work practices.
  • Ensure all procedures comply with applicable NQA-1, DOD, NRC, OSHA, and internal quality and safety standards.
  • Integrate safety requirements into procedural documents, including hazard identification, personal protective equipment (PPE), lockout/tagout (LOTO), critical steps, hold points, warnings, cautions, and human performance tools where applicable.
  • Format and structure documents for clarity, usability, technical accuracy, and regulatory compliance, minimizing the potential for human error.
  • Maintain document control and revision history in accordance with configuration management and document control protocols.
  • Participate in procedure reviews, field walkdowns, and validation activities to verify technical accuracy, usability, and safe execution of work.
  • Support audits, inspections, and regulatory assessments by providing accurate, traceable, and compliant documentation.
  • Review and incorporate stakeholder feedback to continuously improve procedural content, safety guidance, and operational effectiveness.
  • Assist in training efforts by developing supporting materials, job aids, and procedural references that reinforce safe work practices.
  • Ensure consistency across procedures and alignment with approved work instructions, engineering specifications, quality requirements, and safety expectations.
  • Promote a strong safety culture by proactively identifying procedural improvements that reduce risk, improve compliance, and support safe, reliable operations.

Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience writing procedures in the nuclear, defense, or other highly regulated industries.
  • Experience developing safety-related procedures, hazard mitigation documentation, or other technical documents supporting safe work execution.
  • Strong understanding industrial safety procedures and OSHA and TOSHA regulatory documentation requirements.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of industrial safety principles, human performance concepts, and procedural compliance in a regulated environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and electronic document management systems.
  • Excellent written communication, organizational, analytical, and collaboration skills.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to translate complex technical information into clear, concise, and user-friendly procedures.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Technical Writing, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience supporting DOD or NRC-regulated projects.
  • Certification in Technical Writing or professional documentation standards.
  • Experience with electronic document control systems and configuration management processes.
  • Experience supporting Human Performance Improvement (HPI) initiatives or developing procedures that incorporate error prevention tools.
  • Experience participating in procedure verification and validation activities within a nuclear or high-consequence manufacturing environment.
  • Procedure Professionals Associates (PPA) Certification.
