As a dock master, you help to ensure that boats arrive and depart successfully. You also make sure that issues related to the dock are appropriately handled and that boat repairs are completed on time. Depending on the size of the marina, you may complete these job duties alongside a few or several other dockmasters. Because you regularly communicate with boat captains and docking crews, you need strong interpersonal skills. Qualifications for this career include an understanding of marine operations and the ability to work in varying weather conditions. You also need experience in navigating, parking, and anchoring various types of boats.
