The DLO Hospital Laboratory Manager is responsible for representing the Joint Venture in all individual Hospital Laboratory site daily management. Ensures the JV is meeting the expectations to deliver quality control standards as well as establishing, implementing and maintaining standard operating procedures. Collects and analyzes data and prepares a variety of analyses and reports. Performs duties as leader of the daily hospital laboratory activities. Perform duties a hospital department head including representing the laboratory in hospital functional and leadership meetings. Ensure Laboratory Technical staff are effectively performing duties meeting both hospital expectations as well as the expectations of the Joint Venture. The DLO Hospital Laboratory Manager is accountable for the accuracy and reliability of all services provided by the lab departments under his/her supervision. Ensures policies and practices meet all regulatory standards and requirements.
Responsibilities
  • Works as the site manager for the DLO Lab Management team providing hospital lab services based on the structure and obligations of the lab management agreement.
  • Participate in the identification, design, development and implementation of hospital laboratory management services for an individual hospital within the Joint Venture lab management group. Participate in implementation plans, start up and ongoing management for both internal (DLO) and external customer (hospital client) contracting requirements.
  • Interfaces with internal and external resources to ensure successful and timely completion of the lab management arrangement and the ongoing contract success of operations in accordance with client and company needs.
  • Participates in training hospital management and/or staff and is responsible for evaluating the lab effectiveness and outcome. Manager is a key player in the performance of the laboratory team and evaluates overall team performance.
  • Responsible for creating a positive workplace for laboratory technical staff.
  • DLO Hospital Manager has a direct line of responsibility for DLO staff at the client hospital location and to maintain relationships and communications with hospital client, sales, and other DLO support services.
  • Works with DLO Laboratory operations and functional partners (procurement, logistics, etc.), to facilitate the quality and timely delivery of laboratory testing services.
  • Provide regular and detailed status to DLO team members and hospital leadership. Highlight issues, scope of services, with ongoing monthly and quarterly hospital reporting on productivity, quality, equipment and process flows.
  • Ensure when any reference testing is required that samples are prepared for pick up on time; that any issues with testing performance identified by hospital providers are immediately shared with the DLO, Quest or other Reference laboratory to where the test was referred and collaborates to improve and resolution of those issues.
  • DLO Hospital Lab Manager is a key operations contact for Hospital leadership for testing services to coordinate service level expectations. Coordinate and act as an operations liaison for hospital and Joint Venture leadership.
  • Lead or participate in internal meetings, client meetings or cross-functional meetings. Responsible for participating in the development of project plans, including but not limited to: laboratory space requirements or any expansion of testing services at the hospital location.
  • Collaborate with supply chain/procurement to maintain adequate and efficient levels of inventory. Ability to utilize effective management, influencing skills both internally and externally to ensure a successful implementation of all services within scope.
  • Knowledge of department metrics goals and actual performance, coordinates department activity to achieve metric goals
  • Collaborate with DLO Laboratory Director to establish and maintain the laboratory budget.
  • Initiates Invoicing, completing request for capital equipment, and other financial activities as required including managing labor productivity and cost per test

Qualifications
Required Work Experience: 5 or more years' managerial experience in the laboratory industry.
Preferred Work Experience: Prior managerial hospital experience. Must demonstrate ability to lead or manage through supervisory or area lead responsibilities.
Required Educational Background: The Laboratory Manager must qualify under CLIA as a Medical Technologist or possess a Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology, Biology, or other related sciences, and qualifies as a general laboratory supervisor under CLIA, 42 CFR 493.1461
Preferred Educational Background: Master's in Business or Healthcare Administration
Required Certification: Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) certification by a nationally accredited certifying body.
Preferred Certification: Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) certification by a nationally accredited certifying body.
