As a Park Maintenance Supervisor II, you'll lead the maintenance and operations of over 6,000 acres of park areas and historic sites in the Kauai Parks Section, West Kauai Unit. This includes iconic parks such as Kokee State Park, Na Pali Coast Wilderness Park, Polihale State Park, Russian Fort Elizabeth State Historic Park, Waimea Canyon State Park, and Waimea State Recreational Pier.
As an important member of our team, you'll oversee the upkeep of campgrounds, historic structures, comfort stations, cabins, water systems, access roads, parking areas, cultural sites, and scenic resources-ensuring they remain safe, clean, and accessible to the public. Another key part of your role will also be to educate the public on State Parks rules and regulations, provide a respectful and responsible experience for all, while promoting the stewardship and protection of Hawaii's unique culture and natural beauty, ensuring these iconic locations are preserved for generations to come. Minimum Qualification Requirements To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements: LEGAL AUTHORIZATION TO WORK: The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State shall be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.
Experience Requirements: General Experience Requirement: Two (2) years of experience in any one or a combination of the following: Groundskeeping, grounds maintenance and/or related work utilizing a variety of hand tools and light motorized equipment. Unskilled or semi-skilled work requiring the use of simple tools found commonly in the building or mechanical trades. Specialized Experience Requirement: Two (2) years of semi-skilled or skilled building trades experience concerned with such activities as constructing or maintaining buildings, shelters and other similar wooden or concrete structures; making repairs to the same in order to keep them in operating condition and to extend their serviceability and usefulness; inspectional experience involved in checking various phases of construction against detailed plans and specifications.
Supervisory Aptitude: Demonstration of aptitude or potential for the performance of supervisory duties through successful completion of regular or special assignments which involve some supervisory responsibilities or aspects of supervision, e.g., by serving as a group or team leader; or in similar work in which opportunities for demonstrating supervisory capabilities exist; or by the completion of training courses in supervision accompanied by application of supervisory skills in work assignments; and/or by favorable appraisals by a supervisor indicating the possession of supervisory potential.
