Job description

Geotechnical Branch Manager / Department Head – Confidential Opportunity

Location: Ottawa, ON

Sector: Geotechnical Engineering / Consulting

Type: Full-time, Permanent

Skyline Recruitment is working confidentially with a highly reputable consulting firm that is looking to establish and grow a dedicated Geotechnical Engineering division in Ottawa.

This is a rare opportunity for a senior geotechnical leader to step into a true leadership and growth mandate. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to build a geotechnical team from the ground up, shape the technical direction of the division, develop client relationships, and play a key role in expanding the firm’s presence across Ottawa, Eastern Ontario, and the wider Ontario market.

This opportunity would suit someone currently operating at Branch Manager, Department Head, Practice Lead, Principal, Associate, or Senior Geotechnical Engineer level who is ready for more ownership, autonomy, and long-term influence.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the development and growth of a new Geotechnical Engineering division in Ottawa.

Build, mentor, and manage a team of geotechnical engineers, technologists, and field staff.

Provide technical leadership across geotechnical investigations, reporting, design recommendations, construction support, and related consulting services.

Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, developers, municipalities, contractors, and engineering partners.

Support business development, proposal preparation, project delivery, and strategic growth planning.

Oversee project quality, budgets, timelines, risk management, and client satisfaction.

Help position the firm as a trusted geotechnical partner in a busy and growing market.

Ideal Background

Professional Engineer designation in Ontario, or eligibility to obtain it.

Strong geotechnical consulting experience in Ontario.

Experience leading projects, clients, and technical teams.

A strong network in Ottawa, Eastern Ontario, or the broader Ontario engineering market would be highly valuable.

Commercial mindset with the ability to identify opportunities, win work, and support business growth.

Entrepreneurial approach and interest in building something with long-term impact.

Why This Opportunity

This is not simply a replacement hire. It is a chance to lead the creation of a new division within an established and reputable consulting firm.

The successful candidate will have the platform, support, and autonomy to build a team, grow a service line, and make a lasting impact in a very active market.

All conversations will be handled with complete confidentiality.
